Oregon_PLG222
Doed anyone know of a product that will dissolve crusty brake fluid? I'm replacing all the metal lines and hoses that are plugged (the 510 I bought sat for over 20 years). But there are some brass fittings where multiple lines tie into that are also plugged with hardened fluid. I can poke and blow with air. But, what is safe and effective to dissolve and break it up? DanielC
Use denatured alcohol. Brake cleaner also works, but rinse the lines out with denatured alcohol, and then fresh brake fluid. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Isopropyl alcohol [iPA] is safer. It leaves no residue of its own. Denatured alcohol may contain additives that could remain inside the fitting and contaminate the brake fluid. Odds of contamination? Small, but why take the chance. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
ISO alcohol sometimes has water in it. You do not want that type. Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
Or go with 99% ISO, the alcohol will evaporate the one percent that's left. Quote Link to comment
