DREWSDIME
I need some help for my S14 KA swap into my 510. I bought a engine and tranny from a 95 S14 but I did not get the harness. Im having trouble figuring out what I need , how do I tell if my engine is OBD1 or OBD2? I need to buy a harness ASAP but need to figure out which one to buy Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
OBD1 or 2 will depend on computer. 95 did not have to be OBD2 compliant but still had the DLC. Not too much of a difference maker, really. Quote Link to comment
Elkie
97 and 98 were obd2 Quote Link to comment
DREWSDIME
Ive been reading some 95 were OBD2 and the guy I got my engine from said it was OBD2? Quote Link to comment
DREWSDIME
So is the manifold different? And can I just buy a S14 engine harness that's OBD1 and still use it as long as I have a OBD1 Computer? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
97 and 98 were obd2 1996 was the first year all automakers had to be OBD2 compliant. Quote Link to comment
DREWSDIME
I just want to make sure before I spend more money. If the manifold is OBD2 the OBD1 harness will work I just wont have the extra plugs? Quote Link to comment

Laecaon
There has got to be some advantages to keeping it obdii... Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
only advantage would be the diagnostic codes from the ecu when something goes wrong. Otherwise it's more complex to install, parts usually cost more, and there is way less info out there on tuning the ecu. Quote Link to comment
DREWSDIME
Yeah Im having a hard time find a OBD2 harness so I would need computer to be OBD2 also correct? Quote Link to comment
Elkie
ok looked into it and guess 96 also has obd 2, so with 96 97 98, there were about 15000 sold in the us. Also I think the throttle bodies had diff connectors between the two. edit: looked and the TPS does differ between the two Quote Link to comment
