Since I have removed the rusted out heater box and made a blanking plate for the floor where it used to sit, we discussed a few heater options today.  I think the winner is going to be:

"Wear layers and quit bitching, you pussy!"

Rear glass prep...

The edges were covered in some weird goop that was almost the consistency of peanut butter. It was hell of messy when we took them out. But since it was super cold yesterday, most of it scraped off in big chunks with minimal fuss...

After a good scrubbing with steel wool...

16406415_1242355455843576_47788621615984

And a quick coat of paint (yes paint)...

16472866_1242355459176909_11941520669262

Both painted and left to cure until next week...

16425801_1242355642510224_45890877741370

We painted them on the inside of the glass for maximum privacy, but from the outside it will just look like dark tint...

While working inside the van, we noticed a very annoying sight. Rusty water drippings on the block,,.  :crying:

Fearing a leaking headgasket, we were slightly relieved to find out after removing the header it was just a couple of freeze plugs that popped out last week during the two days the temps were down in the 20s.

Guess we shouldn't have had straight water in it...

Cleaned up the holes, hammered the freeze plugs back in, but we'll need a new exhaust gasket since this one ripped coming off...

Hoping to get started on the brakes next week...

Way back, when I was wrenching for a Formula Continental (Formula Ford 2000) team, we used to have a "bit" where someone would mention a worst case scenario.  The reply was always, "The last you'll see of me is my naked ass running away across that field."  Well, when I saw that freeze plug laying on the block next to its giant hole... John almost saw my naked ass running away across a field.

On a less nightmare-inducing note, a set of purple "Angel Eye" headlights arrived yesterday!

The winter will probably be okay because the motor doghouse if very thin metal, and you are about an inch or two away from the motor itself.

I had a couple of those, and remember the summers weren't great in them with no a/c.

I think the winner is going to be:

"Wear layers and quit bitching, you pussy!"

Current plan: build a wall behind the seats, install a power inverter, install a window unit AC in the wall.  B)

Got the parts to do it all, just need to do it. Preferably before summer hits.

You didn't say anything about moving to Alabama

Got one of the rear windows installed. It kicked my ass for nearly an hour, so I decided to put off the other one until next week...

Tim's snazzy lights came in so we had to play with those for awhile...

Did get it up on stands and got started on the front disc brake conversion. Should be finished with that by next weekend...

Bye bye forever drum brakes...

16807673_1254853167927138_53767131735202

Nekkid spindle...

16806931_1254853151260473_72069390491132

Instructions say to cut the wheel studs off flush to press the drum off the hub, so Tim got cracking on that...

16832176_1254853157927139_67100294000884

16681611_1254853191260469_16924175195707

While he was doing that, I cleaned up the caliper brackets and painted them...

16832369_1254853207927134_58220164474921

Once we pressed the drum off the hub, there was still a nub on the studs that had to be ground off to actually get the studs out of the hub, so we thought "why do the same work twice?". So on the second hub we just pressed the drum off with the studs still in it...

16831934_1254853221260466_19039692666450

Here you can see the difference. So ignore the instructions and just press the drum off first...

16864249_1254853254593796_72425798346172

So he got to work grinding them the rest of the way off...

16681579_1254853274593794_91234061900906

You can see here the nub you have to grind off. The studs appear to have been made a permanent fixture on the hub. Which is a very dumb design...

16681665_1254853421260446_39076535201273

While he was doing that, I cleaned up and painted the master cylinder adapter bracket...

16864310_1254853411260447_33652370664738

All the studs out...

16807632_1254853427927112_50186692112453

Tim then got to work hammering all the new studs in. They have a much longer knurl than stock...

16832058_1254853537927101_45275525005860

While he was doing that, I bolted on the caliper adapter brackets...

16864043_1254853514593770_23606724884530

The nice thing about the longer knurl on the studs is that the "slip fit" rotors are now a press fit...   ^_^

Rotors pressed on and the hubs reinstalled...

16681932_1254853581260430_53650518399847

The calipers came raw so we figured we better paint them so they don't get rusty and ugly. Found some of Tim's favorite color...   ^_^

16649330_1254853607927094_66406141199380

Got the new rubber brakes lines installed as well, but the new master cylinder will have to wait until next time...
