Way back when we started, we had replaced the rear leaf spring bushings while one side was out being fixed (due to a bent leaf).

Now, while installing the fuel tank awhile back we noticed one of the front leaf spring hangers was bent, and we knew that would have to be fixed at one point. That day was today...

Getting the leaf springs out was the fucker of all mothers...

New hangers and bushings in...

While we had it all apart, we figured we might as well put in new shocks too...

Note the old hangers. Not supposed to be shaped like this...   ^_^

Also replaced the front bushings in the springs since they were toast, but no pic...

The more I looked at the thing on the Amazons, the less I liked it.  I decided that I'd rather make a couple "tent walls" to "seal" the van and have some privacy in the vestibule of the open doors.  One will be in the opening of the van and the other will be between the doors.  (On Saturday I'll hold a up a blanket and have Datsunfreak shoost some pictures of what I'm thinking.)  I thought I'd buy an old tent and cannibalize a couple walls with zippers to do this.  Then it hit me, I bet I could find DIY tent making materials here on these intergoogles.  I did find a site and "ordered" some material and zippers.  It wasn't until later that I realized the site is based in Florida.  Yeah, I might never get that order after all.  And yes, I acknowledge that I am a douche for being annoyed that they might inconvenience me because their livelihood is under water.  At least I'm not bitching about it in the inter... oh, wait.

Well, that stuff arrived the other day and looked quite purple here at the house... next to the van?  Not so much.  It is way too blue.  I think I'm going to abandon that idea for the time being and just close the doors for privacy and to be weatherproof.

As for progress, I made a cover for the fuel filler pipe today.  Aaaaaaaaaaand yeah, that's about it.

I'll do the vent later... I guess.

Right.

Removed crank handle and mesh screen...

New fan with push button switch installed...

Tim wanted variable fan speed, but it was cheaper to just buy a single speed fan and install a rheostat to adjust speed...

Didn't quit fit, so we had to trim some off of it...

And now installed in the van. We had to open up the size of the hole a bit too, even after trimming the case down. But it's in and works. Note the grey dial opens the vent, black button turns the fan on, silver knob on the far side adjusts fan speed...

Antique glass door knob from ebay plus random 3/8" bolt...

Equals hell of cool spinner knob that matches the shift knob...

It was actually a huge pain in the ass in the end. Had to cannibalize a generic spinner knob from the "never put this stuff on your car" aisle at the local chain parts store. Then install it about 5 times to figure out how to make it spin without unscrewing itself. Then took it off again so I could paint everything while Tim polished his knob. Works a treat though...

Finally finished patching all the holes in the floor, so today we put a coat of bedliner stuff on it...

While I did that, Tim built some kind of robot thing, not sure what it is...

Actually it's a nifty battery box thing. Since we are running dual batteries (one for the engine, one for the rear electronics), this box will house an isolator (right), two monster fuses (center), and an on-board trickle charger (left).

Also in the side, Tim added this cool voltage meter that shows the level of both batteries independent of each other whenever you push that button on the right.

Attached to the on-board trickle charger is an extension cord that terminates in a weatherproof bulkhead plug. Next week we will drill a hole in the driver's side wall to mount this guy...

DUDE!  I can't believe you showed pictures of my continuum transfunctioner, with crosslinked oscillation overthruster!  Now the NSA is going to be all up in my grille about all that plutonium I ordered on the Dark Web last week!

Well, my TV/DVD combo unit is on its way.  It is on a FedEx truck somewhere twixt Pennsylvania and Texas.  I'm settling for 24" because that's the biggest 12v TV with built-in DVD I could find... and it, plus antenna, plus shipping, was still $25.00 less than the 32" I wanted... and I'd still need a DVD player... and the wall mount I stole from my boss is only rated for a 24" TV.

Shut up!  I am NOT just trying to justify it!

I went to the shop yesterday (Sunday) and had a look at that rear door which has been giving us grief.  The pokey-uppy thing which locks the door to the van was free to flop about and would get stuck.  I made a little guide thingy and installed it and now it works a treat... ok, it needs a bit of break-in to Clarence one of the sides, but it works better than before.  I'll try to remember to have someone take a picture of it in the near future.

I come here for the technical and scientific description of work being done.

Trust me, you DO NOT want me trying to take/post pictures on... well, anywhere!  All I'm good for is finding a similar thing on the googles and linking a picture.  For example, this is the phone I use.  Pictures are not its strong suit!

*edit

Aaaand, I just realized that was NOT the part you were bustin' my balls over.

That's the same phone my dad had... 6 years ago!

Great work so far, looking forward to the finished result!

I read it as a complement, because that's mostly why I come here.

Choco-Santa delivered some more stuff this week.  My butane cooker, four cans of butane, two purple director's chairs, and some things I actually NEED for the project: bolts for the TV mount and little rubber booties to cover the big bolt-on electrical connections from the Continuum Transfunctioner to the Oscillation Overthruster... umm, I mean battery charger and isolator.

Oh, and I hung the TV Sunday... sort of.  I drilled some holes and poked bolts through them, then stuck the TV on to see if the size was going to be acceptable.  Hmm, "acceptable" is as good a word as any to describe the future TV viewing situation.  I'd like for it to be bigger (said the actress to the bishop) but it is what it is.

Rubber bootie things...

Tim decided to go ahead and install the panel that covers the top of the fuel tank. Before doing so,he shot some expanding foam between the floor and the tank to keep water out...

You can see he also put a bunch of butyl tape around the perimeter for better sealing as well. Then we drilled some holes and screwed it in...

It may just be my imagination but it seemed like the expanding foam was pushing up the panel, so we put some weight on it while it cured...

Might be able to go ahead with installing the carpet now...

So this really sweet looking polished stainless X-pipe arrived today... unfortunately, I ordered a Y-pipe.  I'm not sure if I'm going to send it back for a refund, send it back for the correct part, keep it and finger out how to make it work, keep it and use it on something else, keep it for the "Shelf of Shame," or what.  Most likely, I'll keep it and run by the new Summit store in Arlington to see if they have the Y-pipe I want... because "It's only money!"  Right?
