Shops in Petaluma/Santa Rosa area!? Need a shop to finish my SR20 1200 swap

Recommended Posts

Okay so I'm throwing in the towel on my 1200 SR20 Carb project, meaning that I'm just frustrated with the whole project. I don't want to sell the car as I've have about half of it done, but I have numerous issue's that I just don't want to deal with as I'm going through a divorce. So I'm going to have to have a shop finish it up, but...I don't want to have it towed to southern California either(which I may have to do if I can't find a good shop in the area). Also most of my tools are in So Cal which sucks.

So if you know a reputable shop, that's within 50 miles of Petaluma, that CAN get the car moving within the next 2 months shoot me a PM.

Once again, it's a SR20DE w/OER carbs

Exhaust is done

Swap kit installed done

Clutch flywheel done

Needs:

Fuel set-up

Radiator installed

Dizzy dialed up

Some wiring

misc..bolts, wires,

Clutch flywheel done

Emergency break relocated

Alternator installed

Fuel line replaced

Fuel pump installed

OER parts arms/parts/gaskets sourced

MSD 6AL installed

Thanks for looking over this, it's just really tough right now going through the divorce thing, I find myself getting upset in like 2 seconds if I come up on a problem and just don't have the patience for this right now but I need to get the project running.

It was tough for me to swallow my pride and make a post like this, as some of you could imagine, with that being said I didn't post this to be bashed, or criticized, so please be respectful.

Thanks

Russ

Divorces suck (having been through one myself), but things do get better!

Take it a day at a time and sort out the shit you can do, dont rush things.

Chin up and best of luck.

Hell, kind of wish I was in your area in Murica so I could throw some spanners at your car.

Oics when its completed.

My two cents, having been through a project, divorce, etc.

If at all possible, focus on one thing at a time. Get through the divorce, tow  your car down to So Cal and store it until you have the time to continue on.  I'm saying this because if you rush and throw the project at a local mechanic or machine shop that you're not familiar with, odds are it will cost you more than you planned or they will do shoddy work.  Then  you'll have two crisis to deal with, the divorce and a screwed up project.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, sorry. I just think going with a local (not So Cal) shop introduces even more risk than you're having to deal with now.  Best of luck.

Put your mind at ease with a back-up plan to tow it, just in case things get chaotic in the mean time. Make a free reservation with Uhaul for a car transport trailer as soon as you know your exit date. They will ask for a credit card number, but won't charge your card till you pick it up. Just be sure to cancel it 24 hrs ahead if you don't need it.

I bought a Dat in Oregon via phone. Made a reservation a 2-3 weeks in advance while on vacation to pick up a one way trailer in Oregon and the cost was $125 bucks total, picking it up in the middle of the week. Got to my nieces in Oregon and changed my plans to leave a few days later and cancelled my reservation, said I'd would call back in a day or two...the phone rep didn't tell me the rate would go up, and that their rates are based on trailer availability and demand. When I called back they didn't have any one-way trailers within 200 miles, and if they did...cost was over $500 !

The dat had fresh oil and was't heating up & was running good and felt ok, I just didn't know much of its history other than it had sat for still for 4-5 years prior to the sale. I gambled and drove it 600 miles down the coast to thru the forest to Oakland, with my wife following in my Tundra . Oakland is a major hub for Uhaul) where I got a trailer for just over $200 to San Diego area. It burned me up they got me for another $75 due to my bad scheduling and ignorance, but they didn't nail me for $500!

3 days later while driving the Dat locally looking for parts... the clutch master cylinder left the pedal on the floor while I coasted making a left turn crossing oncoming traffic into an auto parts store. Was really great full it did, go out on one of Oregon's blind mountain turns. Had to have AAA auto club tow it home on a tilt bed wrecker, luckily within their 7 mile free zone.

My point is, be safe, don't cram your schedule and add tension to an already emotional time, or needlessly gamble your life or your fav Dat toys, while you are making life changing decisions. Hang in. Time heals

Okay so I have some good news. Back when I had my 510 I had a shop up in Napa CA install my Haltec for my VVL. I've got ahold of the guy again, and he's agreed to finish things up. This is a guy I know and trust, as he's done work on my car in the past. I'm pretty stoked. I will...continue to get stuff done here and there. Thanks for all the advice, references, and help. I can always count on good voices here on Ratsun. I'll keep you updated in this thread, on the progress. The car goes in on the 18th of May.

You might also try Evil Genius Racing,in West Sacramento.

John's been doing that kind of thing for years.

I talked with John once about building a cage for my 521.  He's busy but he knows his stuff.

I've never heard of those sites and got a long way to go before I can quit working...Maybe in your old age you're confusing me with one of your other AARP friends?

(I just got called "old" by a Ratsun Senior Member who's retired from the Navy! Ya gotta love that!  )
