Anything else while I'm in there?....I replace the tensioner and idlers if they exist as well. Especially if I don’t know the history of the rig. While you have it off...,you might check alternator bearings and slip a new brush pack on (don’t know mileage). Change out PS fluid to. 2 Link to comment
flatcat19
Only FML cuz I was going fishing. But it's been threatening to blow for months. At least it was on a Friday. Not if it is not leaking. Belt and pump, yeah. Super easy. If your new belt does not have the timing marks, paint old belt before removal and transfer those to the new belt. ....I replace the tensioner and idlers if they exist as well. Especially if I don’t know the history of the rig. While you have it off...,you might check alternator bearings and slip a new brush pack on (don’t know mileage). Change out PS fluid to. Idler pulley and tensioner is a great idea. The rest, meh. 1 Link to comment
Dguy210
Rant commencing: Spent the day working on the wife's 2014 Sienna. Did the 75k dealer bullshit check recently and they wanted $700 to replace the brake fluid, coolant, and transmission fluid so I did it myself. Brake fluid and coolant were very simple, but whoever designed the fucking lifetime "sealed" no dipstick transmission should be beaten. Worse is the online DIY for the partial fill and replace are overly complex. I did 3 passes to replace the majority of the old fluid. I'll repeat in 20k miles. I don't know what monkeys they have work on this shit but jacking up the car for the coolant or trans fluid is completely unnecessary. Whole job can be done with like 3 tools and without removing the wheel or jacking up the car. Done correctly it is like a 10 minute job, the OBDII reader is useful but under $20 and I had an old Iphone and some Itunes credits I had won a while back so did it that way for the trans temp, so 0$ out of pocket dollars. 4 Link to comment
tr8er
Thanks guys. I appreciate you looking out. I did, out of habit replace the tensioner, but didn't pick up the idler pulley. I really hope I don't regret that. I just didn't think about it when I called in. But did most of the job. I actually went fishing anyway cuz daughters who want to go fishing are really difficult to let down. So win so far I guess. Marking the belt is sage advise Flat. I didn't, but will next time. And the steering fluid is actually good advise for my truck. It is needed. 3 Link to comment
captain720
If you get a cheap timing chain kit you have to mark it the same way 1 Link to comment

Hey! I am one of those monkeys. Did you use Toyota WS to refill? Does your scan tool read transmission fluid temp? As for the complex procedure? Fuck that. Ice cold car; pull plug, pull tube, drain. Install tube, install plug. Fill with 6 qts of WS. Watch fluid temp reach to 96°. Pull plug only. When fluid reaches 100° there should just be a trickle from drain plug. Reinstall plug. Drive away. And why are they selling you coolant at 70K miles? Should be 100. Brake I'll sell at 60. Trans, meh. Coolant? Normally never sell because Toyotas have so many coolant leaks- the fluid has probably already been replaced when we did your water pump, radiator, or head gaskets. 1 Link to comment
