russaroll
While driving (510) to work this morning I noticed my temp and gas gauges were maxed. When I got to work I popped the hood and everything checked out. Quote Link to comment
Jester
I am going to assume it is a 510 since those two gauges are prone to issues TOGETHER. Check the ground connection at the back of where they mount to the panel itself. If you take the ground off either one independently, they will max out. Just the way the system works for those two. banzai510(hainz)
the volt reg(aluminum can) in the back if the instrument panel is usually the proplem. As Jester said can be a ground or power going to the volt reg. it feeds to the gas and temp gauge Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes it works that way with most cars. The fuel gauge and temp guage have a common feed from the Instrument Panel voltage regulator. There is no common ground for the gauges. The temp gauge grounds thru the temp sender. Fuel gauge via tank sender. Only the i.p. v. regulator has a local ground. Quote Link to comment
russaroll
so i had some time before i left work to poke my head under the dash to see if anything look out of place. i found the "aluminum can" and i also found a 3 prong relay (metal box). the box didn't have anything plugged into it. i found the plug and plugged it back in. left work, gauges read normal, watched gauges on the way home, normal. plug just fell out. i'll be keeping an eye on it for a while to see if that was the only thing wrong. thanks again.
