flatcat19
Next small task...IR alt swap. I've read lots of threads aboot it. Who's is the best? I'll find the alt I have here and post some pics of it tomorrow. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
I like my hard body KA alt swap, it was easy and pretty cheap. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Kevin gave me an alternator last time he was here. I'm pretty sure KA alt. I'll look into it a bit more tomorrow. Just stoked I get to start driving it again. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
KA is probably the best. Before that was clear, I put an eagle talon alt on mine...it works fine, no complaints, but probably wouldn't be the easiest to find if it goes out. There are a lot of different options that work. I could have sworn I talked to you about this truck at Canby. Oh yeah. Canby. Never mind. What brand master did you use? I strongly support CENTRIC for all things hydraulic. At work and at home. My pedal is so solid. Feels, um...confident. Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
That alt may be a Saturn alt. Can't remember. And idk just ka swap. But do it in a way where you'd keep your T shaped plug and use the ka plug. Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
If no big stereo, these. It uses a self-exciting regulator (only 1 wire to connect), super light (half the weight of stock alt), but only puts out 50~ amps. Still better than stock, but not as high voltage as some of the other options. Was a bolt-on for my A motors and L motors. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ALTERNATOR-MINI-DENSO-STYLE-CHEVY-STREET-HOT-ROD-RACE-CAR-ONE-1-WIRE-HOOKUP-/300964790680?hash=item4612e64198:g:BqEAAOSwyQtVmG-8&vxp=mtr Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Been driving the shit outta this thing the last couple of days. Really enjoying it! Went to go to the store today. I have a Datsun buddy that lives a couple of blocks away from me. His name is Issac. Issac also owns a 521. His truck is really clean actually. Anyways, driving to the store on the main road, I pass the road he lives on....Boom! Here comes his truck. We both pulled in to a parking lot and got some pics together. 8 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
That blue truck looks familiar, or it just looks like a 521 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
It was on CL for like a year and a half before it finally sold to Issac. Issac is a member here. 521wasabi is his username. But, he never posts anything. Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
Back on topic... I google'd that part number. It comes back as fitting a 1978-79 620. Any insight from you guys? Does it look like a keeper? Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
I'd say drill a hole all the way through your alt bracket, so you can put a long bolt in that bitch. Also the holes on the alt are threaded so take care of that to. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I already have the long through bolt on the plate steel alt mount. Should I switch to the cast mount with this one? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 620 were Hitachi. The earlier non regulated had a black plastic cover over the diodes, the internal regulated one was like that one. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Internal regulated Altlernator in photo so you have to pull the external volt reg and do the wire shorting at the connetor. Just be careflu if you have a L 16 in there as the bolts are smaller and maybe shear off in block as the alternator is heavier. I went back to the smaller 35amp and stamped steel mount that goes to the block. Just gave me more adjustment. I JB weld the quarter for my brake light. it would pop off in a couple of years with 5 min epoxy or Superglue that blue truck is awesome Quote Link to comment

The late 620 IR alts are a good swap, lower amps than the KA but you don't have to go cut the plug out of a car in the junkyard to make it work. Quote Link to comment
Draker
I'm doing an alt swap as well. I opted to just buy a connector from vintage connections to cleanly install the new alternator without cutting up the harness. 2 Quote Link to comment
