flatcat19
Tap your threads, boys and girls. Yuck! No wonder this thing leaked. Fuck you, Sergio. 1 Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
How it leak? And what am I looking at?? Do you see all the funk in the grooves of that tap? I couldn't get the tap to bottom out of the cylinder head bolt holes due to them being packed with 45 years of ooey-gooey. 2 Quote Link to comment

Crashtd420
Flat cat was that a thread chaser or an actual tap.... you need to be careful using a tap, sometimes they will cut instead of clean the threads.... 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Interesting to see if it leaks when its back in the truck? You do the head gasket as well? Or just clean/paint/chase? 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Flat cat was that a thread chaser or an actual tap.... you need to be careful using a tap, sometimes they will cut instead of clean the threads.... It was an actual tap. And I'm not new to this. Interesting to see if it leaks when its back in the truck? You do the head gasket as well? Or just clean/paint/chase? The reason for leaks was the lack of cleaning/surface prep from when the previous owner had this torn apart. I am not doing anything to this motor other than clean, paint, reseal, install. Unless.... 2 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Obviously your not new to this, but others who read this are.. I Wasn't trying to insult you or anything... but others might not be smart enough to stop before they do more harm than good.... Chasing the threads is definitely a good idea... but using a tap to do it, may not be the best idea... using a thread chasers is just a better recommendation... 4 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
That it is. I was unclear of your intentions. We're good. I actually ran a rethread through it first then used the tap covered in grease. I think they do a better job pulling the debris out. So, now I'm arguing with myself about keeping stock 210 cam or installing the U20 camshaft from my W53. Decisions. 2 Quote Link to comment
wayno
As far as I can tell you don't give up anything using a U20 cam. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
I won't be using the W53-just the camshaft, rockers, and pads. Everything else will be original 210. And still...this is all just temporary. I've got nothing to lose by doing so...and I'll gain a little mid-range power. Win. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
The U20 cam is the SSS cam for the 210 head, the stock 521 engine/head doesn't have torque anyway, so how can you miss what you don't have. 2 Quote Link to comment
