Spiff
I need a starter and distributer to complete my z20 engine. But alot of the breakers I have looked at online don't list the engine size. Only make and diesel/petrol. So are these interchangeable? I can't get access to the nissan4u website to cross reference partnumbers either... Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
NOT the same. In USA, L18.was fitted with D4A points distributor, while Z20 was fitted with Electronic Ignition distributor. Most Z20 were 8-plug distributors. A Z20 4-plug distributor can be used on L18 if you a) modify the L18 pedestal or b) use an L20B EI pedestal. The dizzy ic module should not face the hot exhaust manifold. So it depends on which type of distributors are fitted in your country. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
From the same Starter question asked last week: Z series is clocked to the left while the L block is clocked to the right and they are too close. L series starters fit the Z series engines no problem. Quote Link to comment
Spiff
Only 4plug Z20's in Norway. So, starter goes both ways, dizzy must be Z specific? Or at least electronic ignition. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I've had two Z20E distributors. Both 4 plug, and the bases will fit an L series engine's timing cover. As ggzilla says the module should face away from the hot exhaust and the vacuum advance can has to clear the thermostat housing. This can be done by dropping the oil pump and turning the drive spindle up inside to reposition the distributor. Quote Link to comment
