Car was a parts car, but almost rust free, sooooooo I decided to try and save it. I'm missing a lot of dash parts mainly.Anyways, it's an early 1972 model. Retro-Active Photo, as promised. Dirttrack510
That's the one. It's going to be a challenge, i don't even have a title. I have to go to my DMV and jump through a bunch of ropes and deal with a ton of red tape, to get a Bonded Title. The plan is going to be to just get it into one piece and running for the Highway patrol inspection, then start the real build. The car can not be worth more than $3000 to get a Bonded title. It's going to be a serious hassle. I just can't bring myself to let it end up as scap metal. :crying: 1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Take solace in the fact you are saving another one :) Quote Link to comment

Elkie
I've had good luck over here in kansas with getting antique titles, with only bill of sale. Highway patrol basically makes sure its not stolen, then just go in for title. Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
It's more difficult here. Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
Wish I could, I just called Kansas, they said I have to live there. :crying: but I can smell the gears grinding and burning in my head... Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
More pics as promised. I'm still not sure if i'm feeling  or :crying: or just holy :poop:I do believe I can rebuild it though. :devil:So far, thislooks to be the worst of the rust, and I have a repair panel for it.Then there's the interior...I seem to be missing some pieces...After taking all the parts out of the car, I actually found the back seat. I think it'll clean up pretty good. I don't see any real damage. Then there's the engine compartment, hmmm... something is missing??? I just can't put my finger on it :confused:Anyways, there ya have it. Quote Link to comment
Small Factory
You'll have it running by the weekend... Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
Maybe... by the weekend... depends on which weekend we're talking about. THIS IS MY 1600th POST!!! MAYBE IT'S A SIGN FROM THE L16 ENGINE GODS!!! Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
BUILD DAY #1 It was a long day in the Datsun Garage... This is what I started with this morning... This is the closest the old "Race Wagon" will ever be to being in one piece ever again.Put the cars side by side to make parts swapping easier. 1st I pulled the front end out of the totaled race wagon...Then I pulled out the "rigged up" front end from the Hell Goon...Front cross-member and suspension all out of Hell Goon...Engine compartment view with all the front suspension, the cross-member reinstalled and the steering shaft reconnected...random finished install pics..Steering Wheel and collumn installed and some of the loose wires reconnected in the dash...Passenger doors put back on... (that was a pain in the ass without help)HEY LOOK THEY EVEN CLOSE!!! :thumbup:That concludes today's work on the car. My ass is beat. I worked on this thing from 9am till about 6pm today. Not bad for a day's work. I still need to swap over the master cylinders, hard lines and stuff to finish up the front end. By the way, if anyone is wondering... Why am I not cleaning and painting all this stuff while it's all torn apart? It's because, I have to take this thing into the highway patrol for inspection and it can't look like it was all just repaired. It also has to be in a condition where the car is worth less than $3000. If it all looks like new, then they will say it's a rebuilt vehicle with a "previous salvage" title, so I have to do all this again if I want to make it nice after I get it all back together this time. 1 Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
Anyone have a door striker and the hardware for my passenger side front door? I need the part that is mounted to the center pillar for the door to latch into. Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
Has anyone driven a dime with a locked posi rear on the steet? My rear axle is posi, cuz from race car... Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
BUILD DAY #2 I got into my new "parts stash" and took it over to my garage. Lots of goodies in there. :w00t:Since these were almost new on the race wagon, I decided to scavenge them for the Hell Goon.Installed in the Hell Goon...Braided Stainless brake line on driver's side, cuz' came from race car...New rubber brake line on passenger side, cuz had it new in box.At least I should have good front brakes now, because this stuff all worked fine on the race wagon. at least the race wagon isn't goint completely to waste  3 Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
I need a wagon gas cap, anyone have a spare? I looked at O'Reiley and Autocrap and they both sell one, but i'm sure it's for a sedan. Will that fit or do i need to find a Wagon specific cap? Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
Then there's the engine compartment, hmmm... something is missing??? I just can't put my finger on it  Anyways, there ya have it. Was the check engine light on?? Great progress man!! 1 Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
Was the check engine light on?? Great progress man!! Yeah! It was on, so I looked in the corner of my garage and it was still there, but it looked fine to me. Thanks Busta 1 Quote Link to comment
Janksun
I need a wagon gas cap, anyone have a spare? I looked at O'Reiley and Autocrap and they both sell one, but i'm sure it's for a sedan. Will that fit or do i need to find a Wagon specific cap? You could always order it and try if before you buy it. I heard a 69 camaro is the same, but have not confirmed that for myself Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
BUILD DAY #3I only had a couple hours to work on it today, as I had to work and I have to get up for work tomorrow, but I made a little progress... :thumbup:1st I pulled the transmission and of coarse the trans cross member.I also have this transmission, but I can't remember what it came out of. If anyone knows it would be great. I think it was in an old 240Z, but I'm not sure.Is one transmission better than the other? Ahhhh... Decisions Decisions... :confused:I need pedals, so here's a shot of the pedals still in the old race wagon...So, of coarse I had to pull them out. THIS WAS A PAIN IN THE ARSE!!! There is NO ROOM to work under the dash of the race wagon with that old roll cage and racing seat still in there. I need to pull the racing seat soon, for yet another project. :angry:That was it for today, I really could use any info anyone has on that other transmission though. If it's a stronger transmission, maybe I should save it for a future race car. :hyper: I dunno... 1 Quote Link to comment
67_1600
Wagon gas caps came up not too long ago. I'm on the mobile version and can't post a link, but you can just do a search for "wagon gas cap" and you'll find a thread someone posted about their '72 wagon Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
Ok, I'll check that out. Quote Link to comment
Dirttrack510
BUILD DAY #4 I only had a few hours, but I got a little work done. Every little bit counts though. ^_^ I found a good door striker on the old race wagon. I guess I forgot to remove it when I built the car. At least it wasn't damaged, so I pulled it off and installed it on the Hell Goon. Look at that door gap, I couldn't be happier. Nice and tight. Just the way I like it. Gigitty Gigitty!!! :o Then I found the hood latch from when I built the race wagon and installed it. Race wagon still had the hood release cable on it too, so I swapped it over to the Hell Goon and hooked it up. Works like a charm, although I don't have a hood on it yet. Gas pedal in race wagon, I pulled it too, but I need to paint it and the other pedals first, before I install em'. Installed new hydraulic hose for cluth slave cylinder. I didn't have a clutch hose, but I had several right front brake hoses, so I just used one. It's a little longer than the clutch hose, but I think it'll work just fine. That's it for today, I'm planning to get a lot more work done on the car over the weekend. 1 Quote Link to comment
