Can I switch cabs?????

Hi guys, I have a 1974 datsun 620 pick up.  One day I decided to clean up the cab, pulled the bech seat, carpet, almost everything out of there, I knew that water was getting inside the cab, but I couldn't believe what I found, the floors are all full of rust, in some spots the metal is so thing I can punch a hole thru it.  I'm a mechanic not a body man, I dont know the first thing when it comes to fixing metal and patching things up, so that means I'm gonna have to pay someone to fix my pick up cab, but  that's gonna be expensive.  So my friend gave me an idea, I can get a cab from the junk yard, they go for $250 and I can pick the best looking one, the one that doesn't need $1000 dollars worth of work, but since I'm in the process of doing that, I was wondering if it's possible to put a later year cab in my 1974 620,  the cab on my 620 is a normal cab, but can I replace it with a later year king cab, I always like the idea of having a little bit of extra room.  I'm sure I'm not the first one who ever thought of doing something like this, so for those of you who tried something like this before, can you provide some much needed advice on what it takes to switch cabs, or if it's even possible.  Thanx.

Talk to your DMV first!  The replacement cab may have a VIN which would not coordinate with the number on the chassis rails and the model year of your vehicle.  It might require a vehicle inspection and application of a DMV unique VIN plate to your "new" vehicle.  Proceed with caution!  At worst the "new" VIN might rerquire you to update your vehicle with whatever safety and smor updates were required for the model year of the replacement cab.

The engine tag can be unscrewed and changed but it's irrelevant anyway as a '74 would have had a standard cab. The King Cab is about 8-10" longer where will you fit this extra cab length in front of the box???

I am under the impression that the lenght of the chassis are all the same on 620,  I'm also planning on removing the bed, that thing has seen better days too, correct me if I'm wrong please.

Why can't he go from a reg cab long bed to a King Cab short bed?

He doesn't say exactly what he has.  He asked if a King Cab will fit and the answer is no, not as described. IF he has a short wheelbase truck the only way to mount a King Cab is to shorten the small box about 9". IF he has a Long Bed the only way to mount a King Cab is to shorten the Long Bed about 9" OR (yes) use a short wheelbase box.

A regular cab short wheelbase truck. It's 100.4" between front and rear tire.

The King Cab and the Long Bed are long wheelbase trucks and are 109.6" between tires.

The King Cab uses a 9" longer cab and a short wheelbase box on the longer frame.

The Long Bed truck uses a standard cab and a bed that is 9" longer than the short wheelbase truck..

The King Cab and the Long Bed have identical frames BUT the front two L&R bed mounts are further forward on the frame than the King Cab. I had to cut them off and move them back and weld back on.
