Joke SUV's

Recommended Posts

I was just browsing a list of new SUV's in a news blurb from some generic news outfit. What a freaking joke. Other than the barely useful looking semi serious players like Jeep, the rest were all useless sexy looking jokes. Real swoopy, real spacey, great lines, very modern looking, wild and sometimes ludicrously aggressive grill work and headlights...and almost to a tee, a caricature of useful SUV characteristics.

Well over 2/3ds of them had lower skirt/front bumper heights much lower than the wheel hub. In fact, I couldn't see that any of them appeared to have body to ground clearances above the hub to hub front to back line. Nearly all of them had completely atrocious overhang on both ends, resulting in approach and departure angles normally associated with a slightly taller than normal sports car than an actual usable SUV. A number of them had both the poor clearance height *AND* a long wheelbase, a recipe for getting hung up on nearly anything. Then there was the rounded, slope sided, steeply tapered ass end of many of these abominations, and you have cut your payload interior space by an insane amount. Some of them you could tell had really god awful sightlines as well.

I can't believe they are called SUVs at this point

gripe mode off.

Most are those damned stupid "crossover vehicles." I hate "crossovers" and the general idea of them. What are they a "crossover" of? A minivan and a car? What is the point? My idea of a crossover utility vehicle is a Ranchero or El Camino, not these flaming homo cars!

Don't hold back on us, tell us how you really feel!

Crossover..... to useless for a road with a single rock on it. Heck, you might scratch your paint or get a boo boo on a body panel, and with these rides, you're halfway to totaled at that point lol

I really hate that Stuff like the new Explorer is just an all wheel drive mini van,( front wheel drive base). I don't plan on getting stuck with anything new, I plan on buying older cars for myself.

Interesting thoughts guys. Some of the design characteristics are shaped by the government to qualify for "light truck" status. Approach angle and ride height requirements etc. remember the light truck status helps with corporate average fuel economy. Hmm?
