Actually no need to heat treat ! slow press made two passes one on spray paint and one between paint marks , a leaf co. nearby told me they do not heat treat ! COLD PRESS. Anyway thanks for input we will see with long rod motor ,also making a heim joint traction arm like 36" to stop roll over of diff. ,already have a guy wanting to do it to his 4" blocked truck ,to get it down to a 1" block.. Please respond with ideas or call your truck leaf co. Go to other than Datsun projects to see process , please respond your opinion is important to us !

I give up, what's wrong???

I had my top 620 springs arched even more to match the F-150 leaves below them. It was to raise the ride height. It was done with multiple passes (dozens) of small bends along it's length and constant checking.

Nothing is wrong unless you plan to use just one spring.... then we have a problem. Use all the springs in the pack and bend them all if you have to to get lower. The spring pack also gives lateral support so a panhard bar is totally not needed. You won't need a traction bar either, if you keep the multiple leaves.

Thanks for response ,the truck leaf spring place , I paid to flatten my 1200 leafs years ago , and the guy told me I can do it , so I have been doing some Merican cars for a while , for a 2"+ drop no blocks , the un pressed leafs did make the arc back the right way which is better than arc going up ,because you want to push against arc , we will see ! , I can always add a leaf , almost back to stock stack ,running three leafs and plank type thick one , feels good so far , have 200 pounds in truck parts in bed .

Regarding panard bar , I also been wanting to this for a long time (like my friend had on a VG 510 wagon and like a 1986 Z28 Camaro style ,single bar ) and later after my truck runs , Tanker and I are racing ,I have too many old race parts so it has a fat cam ,ported head and 48mm side drafts , z20 light crank , later will sell L. motor and install an sr DE so this truck is my shop keeper , please put your input in + or - . Check non Datsun ,Alleycatgarage.

You definitely want to run the full pack of springs. Flatten them all out if you have to, but running less is ill advised. Less spring equals softer spring equals more suspension travel. More suspension travel on a lowered vehicle equals bottoming out, a disaster driving through a high speed dip in the road!!!

The full spring pack will be more than enough lateral support (no panhard bar needed) and being flatter there is less chance of axle wrap on hard acceleration. (traction bar) Running less leaves will cause or aggravate both of these problems.

When I bought my 86 720 it had a ghetto lower job done to it.  Some body re-indexed the torsion bars. This normally is not a problem except the move one 2 notches and the other 3 notches.  On the rear they removed all leaves except the main leaf where they bent it flat.

The truck drove terrible.  I re indexed the torsion bars to stock height and bout a donor truck for $200 and replaced the springs.  new socks all the way around and new leaf spring bushings and she rode like the truck was designed.
