theeoracle
I have a couple of questions. I recently bought a stock datsun 510 cluster with a tach and someone has rewired it. I figured out that from this post http://community.ratsun.net/topic/10842-510-stock-tach/, circuit board #1 is to coil(through a ballast resistor), #2 to +12v, and #5 goes to ground.I'm an amateur when it comes to wiring things in a car. What i want to know is where i would wire the +12v to the car and same with the ground. The other question i have is when the dummy rewired the tach i'm guessing that he accidentally soldered it to a resistor, i think. Are the circled points suppose to be soldered together? TENDRIL
Can you show a pic of the wire locations in the front Quote Link to comment

theeoracle
I have figured out that the three solder points I have circled are suppose to be together. All I need help now is with wiring the tach to the car. Quote Link to comment
theeoracle
ok, i got the tach all hooked up using these instructions http://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4633. Now i have a problem where the tach twitches about 2mm when the ignition is in the on position and when i start the car, it does not move. But when i turn the car off the tach flips up to about 4 and down again. Is my tach broken. How can i fix this? Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
do you have a match box dizzy or points Quote Link to comment
theeoracle
I have the stock points dizzy that came with my 510 Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
hmm it should work, power, ground, and signal, if he swapped it for a newer tach, chances are its not broken just wired wrong or out of adjustment, there is a little dial on the back you can adjust the signal, and calibrate with a rpm meter Quote Link to comment
theeoracle
He just told me that he was using it on a ka24 and only used two wires to get the tach to work, Ground and Signal wire. How is that possible if the tach is not getting power from the 12v? Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
its not.. that i know of unless the signal from ka coil, sends power as well as a signal, but i dont knnow enough to say Quote Link to comment
theeoracle
Does anyone have a detailed picture of the back of a 3 wire tach to see if my connections are soldered correctly? Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
Did he say he soldered. It? Or are you going off the looks like he soldered it assumption, because when you swap tachs there is no soldering required Quote Link to comment
theeoracle
He soldered new wires, from the looks of it because i've never seen a tach with solid yellow, red and black wires. Quote Link to comment

theeoracle
Thanks for that dude. So it seems I already have a 200sx circuit board in my tach and my tach is an early one that was meant for 4 wires. Now that it has a 200sx there doesn't need to be 4 wires right? If it doesn't then is there anyone who has a 200sx circuit board i can buy because mine is bad. 1 Quote Link to comment

theeoracle
oh cool, i'm down for you to check it out. Hopefully we can get it sorted out. I'm free for the next 4 days. Quote Link to comment
theeoracle
could this be the problem? A burnt capacitor, its not bulging though. 1 Quote Link to comment
theeoracle
After days of thinking what the problem might be. It turns out it was a damn wire. I was using an old wire laying around for the signal from the negative side of the coil. All i needed was a new wire. 1 Quote Link to comment
