crossed battery post

Hey guys and girls I'm new to this site doing it on bing, will my problem is I bought a 86 720 kingcab from a guy for 300 runs good,although he crossed the battery cables. Now my gauge cluster don't light up my radio is out ac components won't work. I checked all my fuses they're all good but my tail lights, turn signal and hazard won't work I'm getting real frustrated with this truck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Find and check the fusible links. They are attached to, or near the positive battery post/cable, usually there are three.. Black and Green about 4" long and can be easily unplugged and changed. They can look melted. 

 

Fusible links are not ordinary wire so be sure to replace with the same thing.

Thank you I'll sure look into it. Do you know the exact type of fuse it has so I know what to get before hand.

Your fusible links will look similar to these, these are on a 720 diesel but close enough for you to get the point. Specifically the black and green links between the battery post and the harness.

 

 

Fusible link, in this application, is rated by size so you must replace the sections with fusible link of the same gauge to be correct.  So to answer your question of what type to get, match the gauge size of the existing.  A competent auto parts store should be able to help you match the size if you take a small cutting with you.

WTF?! How in the hell does someone cross the cables and hook them up wrong? It is so simple. I could see if Datsuns used reversed terminals or side post terminals, but sheesh! More importantly how do some of these previous owners survive life itself with some of the dumb shit they do with a vehicle.  :confused:

 

Yeah, follow the wiring and check fuseable links and ALL fuses as well. Just be thankful it isn't a newer car with an on-board computer, that would be costly to repair!

I got a new battery for it and the owner hooked them up which is why I got it for $300 he messed it up before I put it on the trailer.
