bryant2482
ok so i keep forgetting to post about this but a few months ago i purchased a set of street edge 2" drop spindles.they seem to be good except for 2 things, first off i have some positive camber and my driver side wheel seems to stick out about a inch past the fender. has anyone else used these and had a similar issue? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Gees you forgot to mention the vehicle it's on too. Put it in the title so the search can find this later. 1 Quote Link to comment

It likely will not stick out as bad once you take it in for an alignment, I am assuming this is your 1985 720, am I correct? When you make a big change like that, you will have to fix a few things, I am assuming we are talking about the same thing here also, positive camber is how much the top of the tire leans out away from the engine, negative camber is how much the top of the tire leans in towards the engine, the toe is how much the tire is turned in or out while going straight down the road, and castor is how much forward or backward the upper balljoint is compared to the lower balljoint. Do you have a photo of the drop spindle? 2 Quote Link to comment
bryant2482
Wayno you are correct on the vehicle! I don't have a photo of the spindle since its been on the truck for a few months now. I can get a few pics of how it looks with the tire on the truck if that helps 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Yes get a few photos of the tire issue, so that I know we are talking about the same thing. When you put the new spindle in, did you remove either of the upper control arms? 1 Quote Link to comment
bryant2482
I didn't, I left them in and replaced the ball joints 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
Can I ask if you used the stock calipers? I tried to install these spindles on my 83 720 today but the calipers didn't fit one bit.... Does anyone else know? Do I need to use the d21 calipers? I thought all that was needed was to space them out with the supplied spacers but on my truck the caliper mounting ears interferes with the ones on the spindle.... 1 Quote Link to comment

It depends on your manufacture date as to what brakes and spindles you have. Easiest way to tell is your rotors vented or solid. This is on the 2wd that I am referring to. Spiff you do not state what your 720 is other than an 83. Manufacture dates 6-79 to 10-82 is solid disc rotors (non vented) and 11-82 to 5-86 ( end of the 720 production) are vented rotors. 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
Yeah, mines are solid. It's an 83 single cab long bed with j16 engine. I'm guessing I'm gonna need new discs and calipers then from an 84 up? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Our brakes changed to vented rotor around Oct.'82 yours in Norway may have remained solid for the entire run of the 720. I dn't know. 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
I don't know either, they're rare over here especially the 2wd. So I'm thinking, if I'm gonna need new discs and calipers anyway can't I just buy the d21 vg30 calipers and rotors? Thats a bolt on upgrade on these if I have read correctly? Here's a pic of the caliper fouling 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
They will be IF they are the same as ours. Or if you can buy ours, 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
They will be IF they are the same as ours. Or if you can buy ours, I usually buy my parts from rockauto.com, even with shipping and import tax parts tend to end up cheaper than if buying them here. But I googled and found a couple of threads from here and there is something about the v6 calipers having a different offset so slight machining of the mounting posts are needed on 720's before 10/1985 or something like that. I'm not sure how that's gonna play out on the drop spindles, they're supposed to be a fit from 84-97 1 Quote Link to comment
heretic
below is all U.S market stuff ...... I'm not familiar with Street Edge spindles but Bel-tech lists it's spindle application for 85.5-97 ......... for what it's worth ........ I have Beltech D21 dropped spindles, V6 calipers & D21 2wd V6 hubs & vented rotors on both my 620's ...... all bolted together fine, no grinding no spacers. If you decide to "upgrade" your discs/calipers to D21 stuff....... you MAY run into an issue with your hubs not accepting the D21 V6 rotors. You'll possibly need the D21 hubs to make it work. 1 Quote Link to comment
Spiff
I just bought d21 2wd rotor and calipers, also needed the brake hoses but everything bolted up fine with the stock hub. Nice to know the V6 brakes will fit also 2 Quote Link to comment
