hardbodylove
just bought my first 521datsun cant wait to start building. first I payed 600 for it. it has a electric fuel pump, its a j13 motor with a 4 speed. the lady I bought it from says it needs a starter. sure enough pulled it out took it to get checked. they said it was still good so I put it back in after not running for 8 years it fired right up. I did change the spark plugs though. after that I turned it off and now it wont start. got the starter checked again and it was bad after all. so now I need a starter for a j13. also changed the valve cover seal. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
There is a 520 in the Sherwood PNP yard that might still have the starter in it, you could check that out. The J block parts are getting hard to come by anymore, you might think about having that starter rebuilt. Have you tried tapping the back of the starter with a hammer while someone else is holding the key in the start position? 1 Quote Link to comment
hardbodylove
yes and nothing happened. it worked when we push started it. yeah I might have to check it out thanks for the advice 1 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
If it has a starter solenoid mounted to it, you can bypass that and put the juice directly to the motor connector.......have it clamped down!!!! ....if it turns everytime, then it's probably just the contacts in the solenoid. If it turned well the first time you used it, there's a good chance the motor itself is just fine. 1 Quote Link to comment

wayno
ill have to try that With Picasa, I load the photo, then save it in my album for that vehicle,I then go to that album, click on the photo I want, it then becomes a large photo by itself, then I right click on the photo, copy it, then come here and paste it in the reply, it's easy on my desk top. 1 Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Yep.....that's why I was suggesting he tries bypassing the solenoid.....if the motor works, he can use a remote solenoid. :) 1 Quote Link to comment
hardbodylove
I see the pictures that wayno posted. I want know what wires go where to bypass. today put in 3 inch blocks and took a leaf spring out. and bought some 15x8 with 3 inch back spacing next is tires and lower the front https://flic.kr/p/rFPrih https://flic.kr/p/rFPttV https://flic.kr/p/rpf44N 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Put the leaf back in that you took out, if you want an extra 1 1/2 inch drop, find a set of 1980-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 4X4 leafs and put them in, all that will happen with the leaf removed is that you will bottom out more, and you will have to deal with axle wrap if you put your foot into it much. 1 Quote Link to comment
