No crank no click no start.

Hey its me again. So this time my 78 b210 auto Trans won't start. No click from the solenoid. No crank. All the dash lights come on and they don't even dim when I try to start the car. You know like the starter is bound up and just overloading...the other day the same thing happened and I found the small wire going to the starter was loose so I replaced the connector and a section of old wire and it seemed like it fixed it. But here I am again. Scratching my head. Looks like I'm missing work to deal with the car again. Anyone have any idea?

park switch is on trans. I think it will be shorted together when the trans is in park. So find the correct wires and hopefully the switch will show a short. If not then just jumper the body side wires together and hopefully you can start then youll know its the swtich at the trans.

Im not a automatic expert and if there is another switch in the system.

My 521 I had a low volateg from the ky switch so I added a Ford selinoid( a light blk box switch works also) to to send 12(battery voltage to the starter selinoid and now works great)

Turn on the headlights, and try to crank it.  Do the lights dim a bit, or a lot?  If they do not, the starter is not stuck.  The electrical load from a stalled starter will make the light dim.

Make sure the car is in park, and the emergency brake is set, or better have a helper sit in the car, with their foot on the brake.  Jump the small terminal on the starter to battery positive.  If the the engine cranks, then the current from the ignition switch is not getting to the starter.  Good possibility the neutral switch is the problem

Try this:  make sure the tranny is in Park or Neutral, open the hood, disconnect the small solenoid wire on the starter, using either a remote starter switch or a screw driver, cross the small wire terminal and the 12V battery lug, IF the starter turns the motor over, starter is good, if not and the battery is sound, the starter is bad.  As mentioned in other posts, the neutral lock out switch may be bad,  you could bypass that switch and run a wire directly from the ign switch to the starter.

I agree with Doctor510.  It's pretty certain that either you're not getting power to the solenoid, or the solenoid itself is bad and not clicking.

If connecting the little terminals on the solenoid don't do anything, then you can use a single jumper cable wire to connect the starter to the battery to make sure that part still works.  I've even run jumper cables into my car before to start it using this method.  Not a permanent solution, but it helps you illeminate possible problems.

Unlikely two things are wrong at the same time. If this did it once, it has a history and should be looked at again.
