Charlie69
Are the 240SX and the Hardbody flex plates, spacers, and torque converter bushing different? Ratsun and Google searches have zero results. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
240sx KA-DE vs. D21 KA-E? Or 89-90 240sx vs. D-21? 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I am swapping a 87 Hardbody Z24I and a L4N71B into my 86 King Cab. and I am missing the flex plate, spacers, Bushing and bolts. The Z24I came from a 5 speed 87 Hardbody and the auto trans came from another 87 Hardbody, I have 2 87 Hardbody Z24I automatic harnesses, ecu. and trans mission control module. I read on the realm that the Hardbody KA flex plate, spacers, bushing and bolts should be the same as the hardbody Z24I flex plate, spacers, bushing and bolts. Still not sure of this We think these pictures are of a 96 240SX. Would these parts work with the 87 Hardbody Z24I and the L4N71B auto trans? Pulled off the flex plate bolts. Then pulled off the first spacerWhich is flat on the side not facing the flex plate, but has a little beveled edge on the side that does face the flex platePulled off the flex plateNothing on the back of the flex plateAnd nothing on the crankBut there is this little spacer that I'm pointing toThat spacer isn't on a motor that had a manual tranny attached to it so I'm assuming you need that, but I can't get it out. Charlie69
Here is a picture of the engine (on the left) it is a twin cam car engine. I hope this helps. Quote Link to comment

Charlie, I would say there is still a spacer on the end of the cranks in these pictures. Like the earlier L and Z series the spacer wraps around the end of the crank and appears to be just the crank. It just pries off. You can see in the bottom photo that the threads start about 1/16" in, so how is that possible? 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
That bushing in the end of the crank centers the torque converter and is necessary on 240sx at least. The 240 with a manual removes that bushing . I assume that applies to all kae but can't guarantee it. When I did my auto to manual swap in my s13 I ended up having to cut a chunk out of that bushing before I could knock it out. However many people have pulled them using penetrating oil and a pipe wrench. I'm fairly sure you will need it, but you should try to find some pics of Z auto engines if no one else responds with better auto details. There is an important detail you need to remember. Z series engines are close in design to KA24E engines, which came in only the first two years of 240sx and in the d21s. The donor engine you're messing with it's a KA24DE, which came in all other years of 240sx and frontier trucks. So you're kind of looking at 2 steps in your research. Does DE auto stuff fit E correctly? Does KAE fit Z correctly? I would look at 240sx auto to manual swaps for more info on removing that bushing, and look into maybe flexplate p/n to see if that changes. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I have been net searching part #s at Nissan Parts Zone with no luck, the pages for flex plates and related parts do not show on the internet. The Nissan dealers here are not interested in "old parts". Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Ok, for what it's worth, all Z and KA d21 truck engines use the same flywheel for manuals. All 240sx, both KAE and DE use the same flywheel. Therefore DE flywheel can be used on on Z engine. These are flywheels, I get that. But it is a strong indicator that it should also be true for the automatics. It is highly unlikely Nissan bothered to change the mounting depths etc, on the auto but left the manual alone. Possible, yes, but I think there is a pretty great chance that it will all go together just fine. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
You make a good point. I am going to look for a little more information but I am leaning towards buying the ones pictured. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
12330-V0700 is the Hardbody and 720 automatic pilot converter. Fits on the crank before the flex plate. 12331-24G00 is the Hardbody and 720 automatic flex plate. 12333-V0700 is the Hardbody and 720 spacer plate. It bolts on behind the flex plate. All three parts are exactly the same and used on the 720 3N71B and the D21 Hardbody L4N71B automatics. 1 Quote Link to comment
