Zeek90
Hi does anyone have any advice and help on what to expect durring removal of the strut cartridges. And if it is hard to remove 77 b210 cartridges. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If the struts have never been apart they still have the original oil filled dampers. Do what I did on both my 710s. Empty out the old thin hydraulic oil and refill with motorcycle fork oil. I used Belray 20w oil. It's thicker than what was in it so resists being pushed through the valving. Firmed the shock action up nicely. $17 for one liter and that's enough for three struts. Quote Link to comment
Zeek90
So original shocks used oil to stiffen the struts? And u just take the strut out fill up the strut with oil or the strut casing that holds the strut cartridge? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If they have never been changed to the insert or cartridge type, yes. If never changed they will have the factory oil filled ones. Here's some stuff on it... http://community.ratsun.net/topic/24412-my-76-710-goon/page-4 20W fork oil from Belray http://community.ratsun.net/topic/17682-my-island-74-710/page-16 Ordinary ATF (about 7-12W) The reasoning is simple enough. Thicker hydraulic oil is harder to push through the small valve holes. The valving is designed for your car size, spring and weight it's just firmer now. I used auto trans fluid in the sedan my wife drives. Also at the same time I had the struts out I made some changes so I could adjust the ride height and stiffen the spring. If doing this, learn more about trimming the springs to add stiffness. Quote Link to comment
