Weber Throttle Shaft Cam

Thinking about installing a weber dgev onto the z24. Only thing is I don't want to buy the $300 kit. Found a dgev on clist locally for less than $100. The only problem is the part where the throttle cable pulls the throttle shaft is different than what comes with the one in the kit. Can this piece be taken off from the stock hitachi and used on the weber? Here is a pic of what the one I'm thinking about buying has.

The Weber "kit" is going to come with a carb that is purposefully jetted and intended for your application. It will also come with an adapter plate to fit your intake manifold. I get the impression that the carb you found on CL is just a universal Weber or something meant for another application. That means that, in addition to the linkage problem you've already identified, you'll probably run into a whole bunch of other issues with getting this carb onto your engine. You also will need some kind of adapter plate to fit the Weber onto your Datsun intake manifold, that is an additional expense that is usually included in the ~$300 kit. 

 

I guess my point is that the kit is meant to be hassle free and easy to install and get running. If the junkyard route is where you want to go, you'll probably spend less money, but you'll spend far more time scratching your head in frustration, jerry-rigging things together that may not be safe, and you'll ultimately end up with a fuel system that isn't proven, reliable, or maintainable. 

 

I'd recommend saving up and buying the Weber kit, 99% of the members here who've installed them have had very little issues and will surely testify to their ease of install and maintainence.

The weber kit is not specifically jetted. It is a universal carb intended for multiple applications. I have a weber jet kit. The adaptor is $29. DGEV's don't really have any wear parts that cant be replaced. Even their throttle shaft bushings are swappable for like $3. I do agree that buying new is usually the best case but for this model of carb its not necessary. For example I would never buy a used weber ICT carb due to not being able to change throttle shaft bushing because there are none. Plus I don't want to sink any more money into this thing than I need to.

 

The carb I am looking at was purchased from a kit for the 22r which is a 108hp 2.4L so the difference is minimal.

 

As long as the throttle pull is swappable that's wonderful news.

It Is obvious that you have not researched the Webers as well as you think or you would know what to do about the throttle cam plate.  Use the search function and you will be enlightened!

 

Toyota parts on a Datsun almost as bad as Honda parts on a Datsun.  LOL

I bought a used one from a Toyota truck. Then bought a book on Webers. Then bought jets, emulsion tubes, shaft bearings, and more. Oh and also an adapter and air filter. It was a bunch of work, but it saved me about $100 bucks. Not worth it for everyone, but it was for me. Oh and I built a custom throttle cable/return spring bracket.

Ya not scared to put a little time in to save me some money. I have rebuilt plenty of carbs and webers are by far the easiest. Also that one pictured... Nothing that soaking in carb dip wouldn't make look brand new...

 

Not really sure why you guys are trying to scare me away from reusing rather than buying new. I do agree that new is better, that's not the issue here.

 

Also don't really need any sass from you Charlie. I get pretty annoyed with the "use the search" queens. You do realize that if everyone used the search there would be zero new activity on a forum. Defeats the purpose of a forum. If you can return a search answering my questions, be my guest. I certainly had no luck.

 

I respect Datzenmike's reply which contained his opinion and an answer. Posts that are only for questioning the intelligence of someone have no need and only make you look like a fool.

 

There is really no point to continue this thread since it has been answered. May as well lock it so that someone can find it in search and have their question answered with minimal bs.

I'm not sure you've been around Ratsun long enough; we don't "lock" threads unless they turn into name-calling fiascos or are blatant rants/ads. This is an open internet forum where members are free to stress their opinions and beliefs; locking threads infringes on that freedom.

 

I don't think anyone here meant harm or ill towards you with their post(s), we're all being as "helpful" as we can. Keep in mind that many of us are busy with life and our posts may come across as mean when in reality we may simply be tired. For example, I really shouldn't be awake right now, but here I am: On Ratsun! :D

The site:ratsun.net search is what I use. I did not know what the part was called so I did not come across that thread.

 

I'm not trying to come across with an attitude. Sorry if that was the impression. I just felt as though some of the responses were unnecessary. Lets just leave it at that and move on. I feel you with the whole being busy with life and being tired thing. Working nights right now 530pm-530am.

 

The stock one is completely toast. Wires cut, electronics plug missing, etc etc.

 

I'm acquiring a carb and adaptor plate Saturday.

Not everyone on here thinks buying a new one is necessary.  I've never bought a new one NEW, though I did manage to get one that was brand new off eBay from someone who bought it then wrecked the car before installing it.

 

I've used ones that were in the Redline kit for a B210 and one for a 2.8L Mitsubishi on L20Bs and they've worked fine.  Both got far better gas mileage than the Hitachis I removed.  Both idled better, didn't stall unexpectedly, and aside from the weird lag if you stab the throttle that every 32/36 I've had does, they perform better than nearly every Hitachi I've had (I did have one BRAND NEW Hitachi that worked wonderfully, but most I've had became crap around 200K miles and were too warped to ever seal right)

 

  In fact, I opened both the B210 one and the Mitsubishi one and they had EXACTLY THE SAME JETS in them.   140 main/sec jets. 060 Main Idle/050 Sec idle.   I have never seen a Redline kit with anything but the generic Weber run of the mill jets.  The kits had different linkages and adapter plates, nothing more.

Years ago a good percentage of posts were weber related. How to get it running, idling, vacuum leaks?, stalling, flooding, loose boots, worn shafts, cracked adapters, missing parts, where's the vacuum advance? why does it diesel?. This was from mixing and matching a $50 weber here with a $30 adapter there, that turned out to have been 'rebuilt' and had jets mixed up or pieces missing. They were cobbled together from three junkyard Pinto and Vega webers with home made linkages and made to work.

This carb did clean up but soakin in carb cleaner did nothing for hard water deposits.  Read my build thread and you will be enlightened.
