How to know the condition of a scrap yard transmission

I have two 5 speed dogleg transmissions from 610s in the garage. I know nothing of their mileage or history and I've never tried them i a car, they just came along with some other parts that I bought. Now I'm thinking of keeping one and selling the other. I want to keep the best one, but how do I know which one is best?

All advice is appreciated, thanks.

At the very least look at any remnants of gear oil left and rotate the input shaft in each gear feeling for any crunchyness or binding as well as output shaft movement in all gears. I did it that way over a decade ago with my ZX 5spd and everything seemed well so I tossed it in, it's been great so far.

Take the drain bungs out. They have a magnet in them. I imagine the oil was removed long ago but the bungs may have just been put back in without cleaning them. If they have a black paste on them this is normal.

But if they have this, it's not good...

This one isn't too bad a few filings but no broken off bearing parts.
