There are quite a few topics on this engine. One was very recent.

You can run single down draft carb manifolds, single side draft, dual SU's, dual Solex/Mikuni/Weber/Dellorto/SK carbs. There are many varieties of this last intake setup.

It sounds like you may be a candidate for the "How to Modify" book. It would certainly be worth purchasing especially since you are so green. Here's a link on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/171317999720?lpid=82&chn=ps

The OP might be asking about the I6 L23, which was the predecessor to the L24.

Ah yes, the G130 Cedric engine.  Either that, or he's got to be asking about the LD23 that was in production up until about 2003 or so in European vans.

Yeah, since the OP is from Oz, but the only way to know for sure is for the OP to more fully explain what he means by L23.

Yeah sorry Guys I wasn't exactly crystal clear :P I did mean the L23 from the G130.

I was looking at buying a 1968 personal six and like the look of the original engine especially the exhaust manifold and was hoping to find an intake manifold to suit.  I was hoping the early Mercedes manifolds might be interchangeable? Like the twin su Mg manifold was to a J15.

There's a big swap meet on this weekend and I'd like to know what to keep an eye out for.

from Wikki:

The L23 was a 2,262 cc (2.3 L; 138.0 cu in) engine produced in 1968. It produces 123 hp (92 kW). This engine was produced in limited numbers and is therefore rare. The L23 was replaced by the L24 the following year. Bore and stroke were 83 mm and 67.9 mm, respectively. The L23 was based on the design of the original L20.

Thus most things L24/26 should fit it. Like manifolds, heads. The L26 crank and rods would fit an increase the displacement to 2.6.

It's not really clear though. Two online sources show two different styles. I thought the original L20 was slightly different, more like a U20. I thought it had a removable cover on the front of the head under the valve cover and a spring tensioner bolted on there too. I don't remember what the manifolds look like or if they're even close to L24-L28 dimensions.

Maybe the OP could post a couple pics and shed some light on the situation.

That should just be manditory. Every time a new thread is started a pic should be needed to complete the admission.

Maybe the OP thought it might be a straight forward answer that wouldn't need photos.

I searched ratsun, did wiki and jumped around google but didn't find much info.

I haven't picked up the car yet but here's a couple of photos of the engine bay probably won't give a definitive answer.

Kinda needed someone with first hand experience to say what has worked before.

When (If all goes well) I get the car home I'll try and borrow a set of z manifolds to compare( with plenty of photos. :P )

Saw a complete 240z intake manifold set up at the swap meet but couldn't buy it because I wasn't sure it would fit.

Definately different, the ports are all inline.

Got it to run with a bit of fuel down the carb, but floods now that the fuel lines have been hooked up. :P

I do love the obscurity of this engine the cast headers and finned sump are pretty cool, It'll be running the 23 as long as it and the auto holds out. (or longer if I can get parts)

I'll be on the lookout for a donor vehicle with an L24-26 and manual for when we have any troubles, Then it can sit looking pretty on a stand in the corner of the shed. :)
