DatMo
Hi guys, I wanted to put a sealed battery box into the back of my wagon. I was wondering what you guys run? I'm looking for something safe but not the dry battery's due to the price. Show some pics! I was planning to put my battery behind the drivers rear wheel well of the wagon. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
These can be found pretty cheap. Good stuff. http://www.dekabatteries.com.au/index.shtml Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Agm works too, not just drycell. And I bought one of those deka batteries for inside my wagon. A little bigger than the odyssey 680 battery, and cost 87 to my door. 1 Quote Link to comment

Laecaon
I posted it somewhere on my build thread over there, with pictures of it. My car isn't running yet, but I'm placing it under the rear seat. 1 Quote Link to comment

Seansm10
Have any of you guys done the option that was on dimequarterly, which was cutting and making a sunken box In the far back, beside the spare tire? Little more work but I think personally it's ideal for the sake of having the battery outside of the cabin Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
They both have wagons. Not relevant in their cases. :poke: Quote Link to comment
Seansm10
Was that directed towards mike or myself? If me, the article was on 510 wagons. Quote Link to comment

If me, the article was on 510 wagons. No i have not. If these batteries are not harmful, I don't see the problem in just having it behind the rear wheel well. I do understand it won't look as sleek but I don't believe it'll look that hideous if it's covered and etc. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
I thought of that location... But the passenger side has all the vent lines for the gas tank, so you need to use the drivers side. But then you have to cross over the vehicle at some point with the cable(s), and its the furthest location possible from the starter. That is most of the reason I'm going with a box under the passenger side rear seat. Also remember the longer the wire the more resistance, so you need it to be a thicker gauge. 1 Quote Link to comment
DatMo
Found the battery you bought Here's the code if anyone else is interested? Thanks a lot! Also, I'm hoping even though it's nonspillable, nothing dangerous can happen inside the car? lol Deka ETX18L. 340CCA Quote Link to comment

I've been thinking of that but I'm just not sure how I'll get to be able to put it under the rear seat. I'm not the greatest welder and I'm not sure how the wire would reach in. Thanks for opening up my eyes to other obstacles in the way. I'll get it, get my engine running first, then I'll decide on the final location. I found this one which I'm sure I'll buy. http://www.techbatterysolutions.com/Deka-ETX18L-Battery-p/etx18l.htm?gclid=CjwKEAiAmOymBRD0_evS4aTh2hUSJAB7FkhyOm5snrFoa3DztYCG7xpu0ilU4ROHlrwrMjPEICpsXBoC3FHw_wcB Quote Link to comment

I hadn't thought of that. Distance also equals $$. My battery tray is becoming rotten and I need to figure somthing out, I am just not too keen on the battery in the car. For any inexplicable variable that could go wrong. I guess I gotta get creative pretty quick here. Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Here's mine... I used the "expensive" battery tho 3 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
How far down outside does it extend?? Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Not a lot... This is an extremely short battery. It ultimately sits higher than the frame rail. Had it like this for a couple years now with zero issues and I'm lower than most ;) 2 Quote Link to comment
Seansm10
Did you cut up a little it of the seat underneath to fit everything back in, or is your car gutted? Looks pretty dang good to me man Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
the seat rest's higher Quote Link to comment

The seat makes no contact with the battery box and rest's in the factory location. Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
haha that's what i meant it lands before it hits the box ^_^ Quote Link to comment
