My Aluminum Bodied Rat-rod/Supercar 200mph

Recommended Posts

This is my 1955 Simca Sport coupe. 85% of the body is aluminum. I have a warmed over(400hp) small block chev and a 4 speed ready to go into it. Need to build a 36" spring perch-spring perch tuff rearend, driveline etc. Car should kill most imports, 5.0's, corvettes, ferraris once done. Car will do 200mph+ when complete. Chrysler imported these in the 50's......very few stateside......french car.

That's gonna be a cool ride. I think you may need more than 400HP for 200mph depending on how the air hits the body. I'm defo keeping an eye on this build.

Aerodynamics will be a major issue 2 deal with. Probably will need an air dam below the front bumper. I plan to convert the front susp to rack/pinion and use air assisted coilovers.....drop ride ht @ speed. I have a lot of r&d ahead of me getting 400hp to the ground w/o frame/body twist, wheelies etc. A wheelie bar will b mandatory at some point. What is bitchin' about the sbc is that horsepower is just a phone call away(cheapest hp per $)....if 400 ain't enough I'll slap some NOS on it and do a primo port job on the heads. Car doesn't weigh anything......my dad's bone stock 69 Chev impala with 350 horses and an auto would shift outta passing gear @ 90 and easily do 130(2 ton car). 200mph is obtainable.....finding a road that is safe @ that speed is another question.

Looks like 90% of the body is rusting. The trunk look aluminum.

Alot of the paint is blistered....I also had some boxes of steel hardware/sheetmetal get wet and give it a reddish patina. But rest assured you can only get a magnet to stick in a few areas......have 2 b careful pushing it around(soft).

I have gone 150 before- on water- and I can tell you that the overwhelming feeling one gets is something like: “Shit, I hope this is all glued together real good.“     200 is just no place for funky. Be careful. Just sayin’...

I once was a passenger in a HOT bass boat on tenmile lake @ 100mph. I did not like it one bit! The water is brutally hard @ that speed!
