I will assume you will be running the Z24 block in the L series position, and will need an L series transmission? Two ways to go here, you decide. The FS5W71B from a 620 truck or 280zx or 810/Maxima. They are strong enough for the 280zx normally aspirated engines. (about 180hp or so?)

You said the 'strongest' transmission so I would modify an FS5W71C. They did not come on any L series engine except in 71B form, but you can put the front case from a B onto a C and convert it for use. The C is about twice as strong as the previous B transmissions, although the B is probably strong enough.

For the FS5W71C I would get the D-21 Hardbody model. You could get the one from an S13 or 14 but the Hardbody is way more common to find and likely cheaper. Things to watch for and decide on...

The C counter bearing is 62mm diameter and will not allow the 56mm opening in the B front case to fit, so two ways to go here. One is have the B case milled out to 62 so you can run this more robust bearing or Two, just remove and put an earlier 56mm bearing on that does fit. The 62mm bearing is one of the reasons the C is a better transmission.

The gears in the C are wider (front to back, and thus stronger) but room is tight around the counter bearing area. Indeed the B case needs a small trim to remove material whether you run a 62mm or a 56mm bearing. This must be done so you may as well size it out to 62mm while it's in the machine shop.

The first/second shift rod in the C is larger diameter than the one in the B so the B front case hole needs to be drilled out to 16mm or about 5/8" for it to fit.
