What to do with the 411 goon

Recommended Posts

So I'd like to start off with a thanks to all whe read this.
I'm researching options on ratsun for my wagon I.e electric dizzy vs points,
Turbo and L20 swap in the future, just things like that.
The one thing I'd like to tackle is steering. I'd like it tight , quality parts , tie rods/ ends etc.
Mood is my choice in brands but if there are other options, let's here them . Also power steering/brakes?
Any thoughts?

Moog?

A good set of points properly set up will be trouble free and can last seemingly forever. Plus all you need is another set of points in the glove box. Simple wiring, no electronics...a lot can be said for it.

With that said I run an electronic dizzy in all of my Datsuns BUT, I keep a points distributor and 5 sets of points each for all of them.

On the steering gear, if you search around for a reputable rebuilder, If they are good they can set it up for however you would like your steering to feel.

I always try and find Nissan original parts and then second with Moog.

If you are talkng about the 411 ,, i think you will have to take whatever you can get steering wise.  Not sure if L20b is a viable swap ( IMO ) as getting it to clear windshield wipers is a main problem with putting a big engine in one of those,, that has only been solved by a couple guys.

Thanx guys.

Iv herd bothe sides of the coin on the dizzy question and I do think that points are great but

I really like the idea of set it and runn it.

The steering box , I think I'll dig into that topic next. I just acquired a job in an auto parts store so I can search parts all day.

Curious. Could I set up an electric modual on the outside of the dizzy I.e. Mounted els were, as apose to

Internal?

As for the L20 thing. I won't dive into a project like that unless it's to do a KA or sr20 swap. I kinda like the little putter motors anyway haha.

I'm new to forum Etiquette so please feel free to give me constructive feedback.

Points are toast in 10K, need filing at 5K. Plus as they are used they wear down changing the dwell and timing. EI= set and forget.

Maybe retro fit a newer steering box?

And when the parts "person" asks "what is a Datsun 411?" have[whatever]look for a Iszu [ Buick OPEL] set of points, they are the same JDM point sets.

If you are talking about a WPL411 wagon, your choices for an engine swap are limited by the very short dimentions of the engine compartment!  Use the "Search" function to see how many heartaches have resulted from inadvised engine swaps into a 410 or 411 basic body dimentional limitations.  It can be done, but it will cost more time, money, patience and "GD Why did I start this" than you will probably be willing to devote a substantial part of the rest of your life to really pull it off.  It "can be done" but do you have the funding, time, patience and willing to live with basically wrong information as to "how to do" as opposed to "I want to do" postings?

Was going to qoute you and liked your comment instead,,, then i did it again,,,,,,,,,

I think it was that one that was at the Portland swap meet ( on the racetrack ) every year for awhile ,, for like $3000.  I believe it has an A motor in it.

OP I'm not a b210 expert,, but i believe the engine you have in there could be fitted with a factory matchbox distributor ..,  Show these guys some pictures so they can help you better.

So I'm having a hell of a time posting pictures still. I'll re read the how to thread on the matter.

It's an A15 . Out of a b210 . Sofare iv built some custom brackets for thus and that, new tail lights and wireing done.

Ran out of money but she's ready for the road.

Just build a Roadster motor....balls out.

Even a roadster engine, while basically the same engine, requires modifications to the engine not the car.  You need to shorten up the waterpump shaft, swap in a RL411  waterpump pulley and a crankshaft pulley, move the alternator back an inch and reroute the gas line .  It can be done!  If an early 1600cc roadster engine, the rear of the squared off valve cover interferes with the windshield wiper moter.  Later roadster engines adopted the modified RL411 valve cover which has a 45 degree bevel to slip under the wiper motor.

Much easier to start with an RL411 version of the R1600..

I would like to like into the roadster a bit more. Resion being , I would like to do a small turbo . Nothing fancy. Just to wake it up a bit

I would like to have it as a side project to rebuild. As for now, just putting around is my main focus. I want to slam it a bit more.

Shit I want to do a tone things really but cash is low.
