Pertronix ignition ring loose

Anyone else have a pertronix mag ring that spins almost 90 deg on the lobed shaft in the dizzy? It's loose. I swear it was the right kit. 1941 from memory.

if you put in the dist that was a dual point, it will spin. You have to use the single point type.

I think it's the opposite. The dual point shaft is too large and it won't go on. If it's from a dual point the shaft was turned on a lathe and may be too small now. Super glue.

Let's hope he didn't take the green tape off.  Since we don't know which dist he started with, either of us could be right... or wrong.

Give me the distributor number stamped on the side 22100-?????   This will tell.

I thought 1741 was the right one for a 510 distributor..

I think 1741 was actually right. I had a dual point dizzy. Never lathed it. Ring is loose. I did take the tape off, but not cause I'm an idiot. I actually received a unit with two magnets flipped. This was extremely frustrating until I held a magnet to them and found the poles reversed on two. I flipped two, guessing the polarity the sensor wanted, and I was right. Flipping those magnets is not fun stuff.

 

Super glue? Really? I'm thinking a dab of silicone might be correct here, and reversible.

 

I'm puzzling my mind thinking about the consequence of a magnet out of sync. It would have more impact than just timing I believe. I bet it would decimate rotor caps,,

The points cam is too small in the dual point unit, you need the whole single point unit, I have several and I'm in AZ.  PM me.

I have had not proplems with my Pertrnix expact once tape worn thru. Got a new ring.

If ring goes on snug its fine. if loose from begining then maybe its a dual point if I remeber right.

 

a later L20b single point might work also if the ring is machined off the the ring will slip over the lobes. I only had 1 L20 dist where it didnt line up right for some reason.

 

Use point coil and ballast resisitor for longevity
