DLCS*SD
So I have been wondering why for like the last month my car has been smelling like fuel inside. I've been inspecting everything daily trying to figure this out and of course as soon as I drive it to work the leak shows up. It is leaking directly from the wire terminal on the sending unit. Before I go tearing this thing apart after work today does anyone have experience with this issue. Can I just take it out put some sealant on it or do I need to replace the send unit idk because I have never seen the inside of it. Just want to know what im getting myself into. I could send pics but the leak is so small you cant see it. Thanks ahead of time. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
I've dealt with this before. All I did was drive it until the fuel level was low enough(or I suppose you could just drain the tank if you were so inclined), then removed the sending unit. I used some of that 2-part fuel tank patch putty and after cleaning around the terminal, made a perimiter around it using the putty. I used a generous amount, but left enough of the brass contact exposed that I could get the wire terminal back on. Gave it plenty of time to set up and reinstalled. It worked like a charm. 1 Quote Link to comment
DLCS*SD
Yeah after looking up some replacements I think that repairing it is the way to go for me. I just cant see spending $150 when mine I still in working condition. This two part fuel tank patch I can find this at autozone or napa Im guessing? thanks for the suggestion. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Yeah, comes in a tube. I bought mine at Napa. Mine was grey on the outside and black on the inside. Just cut a hunk off and knead it together until it becomes one color. Make sure the surface is clean and thumb it on. Quote Link to comment
D52E
In the event that you need a new part you do have the option to buy a 240z part from nissan. Those are still readily available and reasonably priced about $50 if I remember correctly. It will require modifications to fit the 510. Basically, you straighten and shorten the float rod. The final tuning involves bending the rod and using an ohm meter To achieve correct resistance. The ohm range is about 10 ohm full to 90 ohms empty. Here is a post where it was detailed on the 510 realm http://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=25163 Quote Link to comment
