The Cpl's Artwork

Recommended Posts

So i saw Spoona_J throw up some artwork and didn't want to thread jack, but thought i would throw some stuff up for you old smelly hippies. It's a little past the season for getting a commission piece for the holidays, but i do commission portraits and crap for future reference.  ill just throw up some recent stuff and a few of each variation i do.

Back Story (if you care)
so i started drawing in high school, my teacher was a pretty feelie touchie emotional type person who tried to teach me to appreciate art, so the skill was gained on just hours of time. went on to win some national awards for technical skills and such after a few months, and decided to say forget high school to just draw all the time. (some how i still passed high school) eventually i got board and joined the military, did a mural on almost every base i was stationed. about a week into boot i realized i fucked up, and went to the drill instructors. they gave me the "everyone says that" speech. So i showed them my art, and they looked at me. then they called the company gunny in, and he looked at me. then the company CO in, and i have all these yahoos looking at me, and then my DI asked "why the fuck" i joined the military. ended up staying in but didnt do much artwork (the military is not the most stimulating environment for creativity, you just feel like choking a baby the whole time) so after i got out i sat around for a bit, and went to school until now. but i recently decided to take my art back up and make a living with it. ill be doing video game concept art and 3D modeling to pay the bills for the most part, but the fine art will be my thing. thinking about doing that sharpie shit to my truck before i can afford a paint job. anyways, some progressive work form when i started, to now...

this was my first actual commission about 7 months after i started drawing. i dont thing you want to see much before that, hahaa.

annnnnd yeah on to now. once i got back into art i found i didnt have my own style (and if you know something about art, a unique style is a big part of the artist. actually even having a style that youre known for) so thats where i am now, in a search...

so this is the strange shit im doing now...

It all looks good to me, but I am not an artist or a critic.

If someone robbed me, I could not give a description other than drawing a stick person with whatever he was using to threaten me(outline of gun/knife).

stick figure wars man, that shit is where its at, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. use to do that stuff all the time.

I had that same type of teacher in H.S.- a perfectionist. But, I always liked the arts and eventually I got awarded the best drafter in H.S. Went to a Cal State, and took some more art classes as part of my GEs that eventually put out some similar work as both you guys. I still have them somewhere in my old cluttered mess... Somewhere Lol.

It is a relaxing time for me. But singing, acting, drawing are of interest for me in the field of arts. Heck, even IRONING my own clothes, which I happened to do today, is somewhat a relaxing thing for me and somewhat of an art, as well! Lol

You're both talented guys! Best of luck!!!

I applaud your talent. I find most of your work amazing and pretty creative. I was recognized by everyone at school too. Unfortunately I too joined the military and had to put aside my art for bigger priorities: engineering degree. Today I have to admit that rare are the drawings I make and most of them are dimensions drawings or small personal requests...

I dream that someday Ill get back at it a way or another. Currently I have two project 620. The one I keep will be painted by me and maybe Ill buy an airbrush and try it :)

alright, so now that the truck is up and running, im back to being a working man, naturally i would love to make art for a living, but that can be complicated some times. would anyone be interested in a commission of some sort. know that most of this stuff here is older (as far as my realism work) i can do cars, people, pets, you name it. direct from a photo, or an in between of a few that you like.

first few will be cheap(er) as i dont have a solid body of work to pull form to showcase really what you'll get. but expect it to be much better than what i have put up here.

sizes range form 6x6" to 24x36" as far as drawings. paintings can range up to the 6' range. prices depend on those factors. i usually dont charge more than $300 for a large drawing the first few will probably be less than half of that. paintings start from $150 and can go to $2k. i can make prints for cheaper, but request for commissions must be the original work as the picture will be more personal to your taste.

also 70dime, my friend wont get back to me on picking up her painting, so as of now its up for sale. inbox me if you want it. its 12x48. i can always make her a new one.

Your scenes have depth, defined focus, very intentional color scape, and contrast of detail and shade. I'm seeing your path to a style, as there is little cohesion between pieces. But dont get caught up looking for a style. My advise, focus on the process. Paint in the manner which is most exciting to you. That excitement is evident to the viewer in an artists work. Your "style" will find you months or years after it's developed, and you won't even know it till you hear it from a critic.

I went to school for fine art. Got a degree and all that. Degree is worthless, but four years of access to a sculpture department was worth a whole lot, and I learned a shit ton about how to not be an artist. There is a right way, and for me it was about not making money at it. At least, not trying to make money. I figured I'd do what I love, and if it ever pays the bills, awesome. But sculpture is a different beast.

Anyway, just checking in, letting you know there are fellow artists on here, loving the work! Im wanting to see more plants, that tree is sick.

Holy shit your painting skill is incredible. I really dig the abstract body stuff that you, and you could most certainly make a living with the talent you have.

You should do a glove box lid for one of your cars like the painting at the top of this page, that would just be a wicked touch for when someone is riding along with you.
