FlanymanS30
I have a 280z that I've been building and I found that it's time for a good old engine rebuild. I pulled the engine and got it all apart exept for the crank shaft. Because I can't seem to get the "rear main bearing" off. I don't want to damage anything so I thought I'd ask so I don't mess anything up. And what I should use to get the blackness off my piston heads or if I should just get new ones. Thanks Quote Link to comment
Doctor510
The center main bearing cap and the rear main bearing cap have a threaded (8mx1.25) in each. Screw the correct short bolt into it leaving about 1/2". Using a pry bar as lever, pry it up. Use a hammer handle as the fulcrum so you don't scar the block. Quote Link to comment

Doctor510
Put them into carb cleaner for a hour or two, rinse with HOT water and a tooth brush. DO NOT use a wire wheel. Be careful removing the old rings. Quote Link to comment
