I've done my time in mod approval status. Ratsun is a good place. I have enjoyed my stay here. The information is great, blah blah blah... there is room for improvement I think. If that constructive feedback from your user base is not accepted, people will move on. 

 

 

 

Anyone want to join my ratsun myspace page?

Mike, my comment "where are all the mods" is just that.  You are the only mod that I see on a daily basis.  If the mods life have become to busy maybe you guys might think about adding more mods.  What happened to "The Bam Hammer" Skib? For one.

just the opposite.  if there are all these mods and only a couple doing anything then we need to get rid of them and find more  active members who are willing to put in the time.

 

 

the classifieds are fine.  i joined at the tail end of the "old" classifieds so the "new" classifieds are easy.  i like how it's categorized.

 

 

 

also, i like it here.  there's just enough fuckery mixed with knowledge.

Old classified ad's tipped the price in the buyers favor....New classified ad's seem to lean towards the seller.  All the changes happened when I was not on the computer due to the birth of my boy and him getting all my time.  Seems different to me.

 

I prefer the old way, but I still keep logging in during my spare time.

Yes, the seller has the odds advantage. It was agreed that the parts offered were way more important than an opinion on what it was worth from someone not even remotely interested in buying and only in the fun of driving the price downward. Naturally the seller would simply pick up and leave. Many if not most parts are no longer made, almost all are original and once thrown away in disgust they are gone forever. 

 

It was further believed that any true Rastuner would know the value of a cheap deal and ignore an over priced flip. The seller is left with reducing the price or not continuing.

 

 

 

 

Lets eliminate any problems before that even start. Rather than a benevolent dictatorship lets try a Faschist state. Yes we could stop any member asking a stupid question and give them a days suspension for second offense. Banning for repeatedly not researching and asking proper questions and wasting other's time. Hell lets get serious and get rid of anything not Datsun related like Insomniacs or Daily randomness, POS(T)its and POSTAS(S) probably 20 others.  Time to sell advertizing space here I think. Maybe have a rat facebook for younger younger members

Many have moved on... and return for info and help. Always welcome, doors open. There are worse places.

Well I indeed suck at being a moderator these days when I use to read every post. I've apologized to the other mods and even said I'd totally understand if they pulled my mod privledges. For me the reality of being a freelance illustrator and deadlines and never being 'off' work took its toll. Add to that the dreaded facebook and instagram, which I have to stay up with to promote the illustration biz, which eats up my interwebs time, and I fell off the map.

 

And i think that is actually key to whatever drop-off folks have felt. It you think about it, when Ratsun was at its most active, Myspace was just coming on. THere was no facebook, twitter, instagram. If one factors that into the lack of activity here I would bet it is that.

 

Heck I just sold my suzuki swift gti, and that forum gets way less traffic and posting than Ratsun. For many forums it has become a ghostown. There is sooo much information out there that you can usually find what you are looking for without posting a new thread. And then if you are a newb and do post a thread of a question that has been asked a zillion times, you stand the chance of getting flamed.

 

When Ratsun was crazy there wasn't really a way to hear what is up with all your friends, family, profesional relationships OTHER than e-mail. That sht eats up alot of clock which use to be spent here, LOL. The landscape has changed. ESPECIALLY with younger members.

 

But I still love this place. I actually drive my Datsun more now than ever in the history of me being here. Ironic that I am the most quiet in history now too.

Well, I'm a fairly new member (3 or so months), but I've been lurking for most of the latter half of 2014. Out of all of the various internet forums I have spent time I, I find that Ratsun has one of the best communities with the least amount of issues. That being said, there are still issues present. Some people (no matter what you tell them) will have sand in their vagina, so to speak. As Mike was saying, temp bans might give them time to clean out said metaphorical sand. 

 

I don't know about you guys, but I think of ratsun as a bit more than a forum.

I call it my car club. I treat it like a club and event people treat me like I am a representative of a larger club. I've got decals on my vehicles. I talk about other members as though we're part of a society of Ratsuners. I'm trying to make more of a real world presence here in my part of the world.

Honestly, you hit the nail on the head, Rhapakatui. The hospitality and sense of community of this site is akin to no other. When I first joined, some of the posts I put on my first thread would have warranted comments like "lel get rekt", "tl;dr stfu" etc. Instead I received helpful, meaningful replies, which aided me in said situation. The sense of community of this forum is utterly immense. The fact that there are threads like Daily Randomness, ____ Porn, Postit(s), postas(s), Insomniacs, etc. display that it's not just a forum, it's something more.

 

 

 

yes people need to try a little harder to get the info they need but the info is here.. people may be unruly or kinda angry at time but I do understand someone being this way towards a person asking a question that's been asked ten hundred times....
I'd say just try and guide people more, those of you that know a lot that is..
I'm here for one thing, to get more information and knowledge of the beloved Datsuns.

If they can't help themselves, no point in helping them. (Unless they were not aware of the search function.) On that note, one should have to go through a quick tutorial/ list of guidelines when signing up for Ratsun IMO. The aforementioned list should include FAQ's; or just simply have a FAQ's page, that new users are directed to upon logging in for the first time. Welp, thats my two cents.

 

TL;DR - Community is fine, temp bans are good, new members should read a few things before being able to post.

Facebook is for 12 year old girls to cry about how hard their life is and that nobody understands them, not for selling/talking about things. It was purpose built to connect with people, for short shitty conversations, and to highlight more important life things. Thus making it an awful tool for keeping an organized community.

Being one of said younger members, I honesty don't see it to be beneficial, due to aforementioned reasons. Then again, I may be alone on that standpoint, when it comes to my rough age group.

Yes I like the old classifieds better. They were more fun. It's common sense that almost any forum can either sink or swim based upon the strength or popularity of the marketplace/classifieds. 

 

The only biased asshole on here is Ray, but everyone treats him as they would a stray dog anyways.. occasionally you'll throw him a half chewed bone. Every so often he entertains you, but if he disappeared tomorrow you would likely not miss him... :rofl:

I was being sarcastic because this is how high my regard for facebook is.

 

Tell the truth, I don't think even 12 year olds think f/b is 'cool' anymore. They've moved on.

Most likely, seeing as there is another app just like the one before it that they hop to every two weeks. In regards to the original facebook comment, I didn't catch the sarcasm on first read but now it is rather obvious. doh1.gif

FWIW I have seen the amount of flaming and bitchiness rise, peak and thankfully subside on here. I have learned to skip reading the posts that are negative so I can enjoy my time here.

 

I remember an experience with the old classifieds where my price was flamed by a bitter person who used to get that stuff for next to nothing etc. I sold it the next day slightly lower than asking price. The new classified section is what it is. I can deal with it just fine.

 

This is still a community of very helpful people. Thanks to everyone who make it what it is!

My life has changed some, for several years the economy was in the tank.  I spent time on Ratsun for something to do and find info and deals to improve my cars.  Now, I'm overwhelmed with work and a couple businesses that I rarely check in.  I still have not gotten used to the new classifieds but they work fine.  I'm in the process of getting rid of projects and only owning complete and original cars.  I just don't have time to play with projects any longer.

Fuck Ratsun, I hate this place.  That's why I waste a good deal of time posting videos and pictures of Datsun crap all over it.   :D  For the record, I sold my 510 in the new classifieds and it worked just freakin' fine.

the only thing wrong with ratsun is the people who complain about it 

check the other new forums they are not even close to Ratsun 

although it is nice to have other places to go HERE IS THE BEST OF THEM

some people left because they didnt like change   specifically the new classifieds 

I cant believe this thread is 4 pages already and no I didnt read all the posts and dont plan too
