KrazyWaldo
So I was at the local junkyard, and to my surprise I found a 74 little huster so I took what I could from it. Ive also picked up some 15" steel wheels, some BMW lights, and a lip off a S10. Sadly its still not running. Rebuilt the carb and nothing happened, didnt even attempt to turn over. I suspect the PO switched the plug wires around on accident. So I need to figure that out. So yeah now i have a spare bumper, spare gauge cluster (might sell), spare grill to paint, BMW lights, a alternator out of a D21. The truck that comes with the Z24 engine. I was hoping to take the Intake manifold but it has all the emission crap on it. I believe it was originally a Cali truck. Nice gauge cluster that's not broken and showing 37,XXX miles! MicroMachinery
Nice haul. If it didn't even try to turn over, I think you have something going on other than spark plugs being in the wrong place. So it's not cranking? Quote Link to comment
KrazyWaldo
No my bad, it does turn over but doesn't fire. All it did was backfire real bad once and I stopped trying it was getting dark. I motored it over for like a minute to no prevail. So I picked up my tools and went inside.. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Ah, gotcha. Next time you're out there, take the cap off of the distributor, turn the engine over by hand to #1 TDC and make sure that the rotor is pointing to the corresponding plug wire that runs to #1 spark plug. The firing order is 1-3-4-2, and the rotor turns counter clockwise. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Firing order is 1 3 4 2 counter clockwise. That odometer reads 137,000. This is an internally regulated alternator so any chance of working it has to be fitted to a '78 or '79 620. Earlier 620s can be converted easily enough. The alternator will bolt up and work but has the wrong two wire plug. You'll have to splice the wires but keep your old plug. This alternator is a larger diameter than the 620 and will be a tight fit without hitting the idler arm below it. They are almost twice the output and that's really good but the fitment isn't. Generally 'doesn't turn over' means just that, nothing happens when the key is turned to start. Doesn't fire or doesn't start means just that and assumes the engine is being cranked over. KrazyWaldo
Yeah I was already in the process of checking the firing order but I couldn't turn it by hand easily so I said screw it. I have the plug out i just need to get under there with a big socket and wrench but didnt feel like getting dirty. I was going to do it this weekend but got lazy. Quote Link to comment
Hrvat9
Is there anyway to get that windshield if it isn't cracked ?? I desperately need one and can't find a replacement Quote Link to comment
KrazyWaldo
I would have to go back and inspect it thoroughly, but there wasn't any obvious big cracks. How would I go about shipping it to make sure it would break? What about shipping cost? Quote Link to comment
Hrvat9
I'm sure if you go your closet shipping or mailing store they'd box it up with bubble wrap and mark it as fragile and it would be safe. If it made it here cracked it's their fault and they should refund it. So what you say to the price of the windshield? I'll send ya 50$? Plus whatever shipping is :) Quote Link to comment
KrazyWaldo
It cost $40 just to pull it. I honestly don't have time to get it during the week. Weekends I have my kids over, so I try not to go unless necessary. Anyways i rearrange the plug wires in the correct firing order. It turned over, fired, and started! Sounded like poop, I tried adjusting one of the screws to maybe help the high idle, and the whole carb just flooded. The float bowl filled all the way up and spit fuel out of the two little air nozzle things. Don't know what they're called. I was able to film a video of the start up, it sounded horrible, maybe needs valves adjusted. Hopefully video works Quote Link to comment

Hrvat9
You'd be helping a fellow Datsun member! You can definitely talk them down I'm sure , you know what I'll give you double, 80 sound good? Plus shipping. I really need it :(.... Mine is cracked to the point you can't almost see, cNt register the tuck without windshield Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just check the wires for now. 1 3 4 2, counter clockwise. If wrong this is the problem. If the order is correct then go deeper like checking of the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug at TDC. Quote Link to comment
