New to the Datsun 510

Hello all, 

I am very new to the Datsun community and need a lot of help and knowledge. Reading around forums and articles many owners and dime enthusiasts are all saying they will not pay more than 5k. I am planning to buy one sometime in the next 2 months. Looking on CL I stumbled upon many that are 6k+. Here is one that seems to be in pretty decent shape. If you guys could help and tell me if this is a reasonable price or not that would be great.

I think he ruined it by painting it that way

 

everything else looks clean(nice engine swap)

 

 

spend 4K then reshoot the paint to the stock color whats in the engine bay

 

offer 3500 and leave your number

The swap, if done wel,l is worth over 2K. Agree with hainz the paint is too personal and takes away form this car. I wouldn't want to be seen in it. Otherwise looks pretty good. Needs lots of cleaning up (and paint). You need to drive it. Says drips oil or something. $2,500 for the swap and $2K for the running car.. $4,500 maybe if the brakes and trans work well. For $6K plus it should look better.

I dont know why people clone this from Ratsun page.

This really ruins a car esp if it had good paint and straight. If a rusty beater no proplem.

a no rust stock color straight 510 will be always worth

 

 

However if your RICH with too much money and want to bring it back to what it really deserves youll be the Man here

I am already planning a repaint if needed, so thats not a problem. i am mainly concerned about the price. I will see if i can get the price to 4.5k like datzenmike said.

wheels don't fit right, Have him keep them and lower the price

 

funky key location and blinker arm set up. means someone hacked the wires up.(maybe)  not that a 69 blicker arm was hard to get. Look like a willys Jeep clamp On blinker set up. but looks clean also what I see so far

 

1st 510 is a GOOD car just the Fying Tiger scene got to go.Plus the Flying Tigers fought the Japs so I don't get the connection if anything make it a Jap Zero scene

You are talking about the one on the rear fender correct? I am not too sure it could be, or it may be a bad weld. 

 

I am not too familiar with the wiring or electrical work. I will ask the seller about the fender issue and everything. 

 

True. I am not much of a fan of the paint job on the first as well.

That's a lot for stock car 4 speed, L16, sits too high, no zx struts and brakes, no KA engine swap.

This 510 is $4k to drive home ... without the white wheels (comes with stock 13" steel wheels) .. can be cheaper if you bring your own front suspension or motor

Looking over the Datsun 510 1968-1970 I see that the dash is drastically different than on the 1972,  which is more of my taste.

 

If I get a 68' or 69' and buy an after market 72' dash will it fit? I know I will have to buy new gauges. 

 

Would I have to make some custom modifications in order for the dash to fit snug in the 69'. 

 

Or would the 72' dash won't fit at all?

Swapping from the 68-69 dash to the 70s dash isn't simple. You need to change the superstructure behind the dash as well as a good chunk of the wiring. My brother has a 69 2 door that's had the dash swapped and we recently took it apart to do some rust repair on the firewall... It's a pretty extensive swap. 

 

There also is no aftermarket dashboard (replica or otherwise) to my knowledge. You'd have to source a used dash from someone else. A complete, no crack, 70s dash isn't too hard to find though.

Plus the 68-69 dash is a lot harder to come by so you might not want to do that...

68 is the rarest year. harder to find parts. so if you do get a 69 ask me for parts. lol.

 

But honestly dude, the first one seemed decent to me and datsuns flew up in price.

You gotta do more research and see what suits you and look at forums for prices. Go there and lowball the shit out of them.

 

Once you've done that, you'll find one that'll be for a price you like as well as what you're looking for.

 

I didn't do enough research and had a lot of flaws along my build.
