While waiting for the LADA, check out the Yugo.  Same design plus who knows how many "modifications" to the basic Penin Farina design.  Sad to say the Datsun 410 and 411 were originally a Pinin Farina design until the good old boys in Yokohama started to mitigate some of the grosser Italian flaws.  Quite a few survived however in Japan the life cycle of an automobile was assumed to be 10 years at which point draconian inspection criteria were imposed.  In some respectes the 10 year Japan criteria made the strict German criteria seem to be pussy.  Don't ask why in God's name any sane designer would join the roof panel to a body based drip rail complete with a spot welded joint of the roof to the body channel.  Yes, that's right!  The rain sits on top of a spot welded open "welcom mat" the the body.  "No problem" the open leak path is sealed with Non hardening and non shrinking sealant.  Guess what?  After 30 years it shrinks and cracks.  Guess what happens to the spot welds sitting in the water puddle of the roof runoff!  Oh! did I mention?  It looked a whole loter better if the drip rail and the runoff water had a dip in the right and left rear sides of the roof!  It really did.  BUT! There was no outlet for the rain water which puddled in the left and right sections of the drip channel.  Would you care to gues happened whenthe "non shrink non hardening" sealant did really shrink and non hardening sealant proved that the designer was either a liar or a fool?  The LADA has the same Pinin Farina design defect roots so beware and bring an ice pick to the inspection before you exchange any cash!

MikeRL411: Another very insightful consideration! As I grew up, this particular place I grew up in had a lot of those Ladas. Many we're used as taxis. But, as a kid, I had no idea whether it was a Lada or a 510! All I knew is that I really liked the smooth squared shapes they had. So, a few years after, growing up here in the great U.S. of A., I still liked that same shape! But now, as an adult, I was able to find out about their particular histories and also be able to afford one, or two, or three... Of those neatly shaped cars! Lol. Well, at least 1 of those, pretty neat, Ladas!

Knowing how QUICK us Ratsuners are: Can anyone take a one shot guess of what particular country that is?! I already have you a hint or two!

Prior to the recognition of the JCCS auto show no one knew what I was driving [an Rl411] whith the exception of a man I worked with who raced at an now obsolite Southern California raceway and immediately knew what my RL411 was since he raced against them,  The other one was the ditshit insurance investigator who messed up my rear bumper while "admiring" the bus which had just taken out a pickup truck!  She insisted that I was driving a FIAT 124,  So much for insurance company price estimators!

You know your stuff, wayno. You actually we're very close TWICE: North of Costa Rica, and almost as communist as Cuba (which had great influence in getting them to C.A.)

It's Nicaragua!

And, to my surprise, they still make them and have them there running around! Latest year I've seen was around a 2012 EFI model!

And yes, they are similar and/or relatef to Fiats!
