Dantheman
I thought I've seen this done. Mods needed? Or is this a straight bolt up and go? Thanks for you input Quote Link to comment
graveltrapp
I believe the spacing is different. That would make it to easy. Give me a measurement and I will check it against the spare R16 SU box I have. Be specific as to where you do your measurement from. Ex. Bolt hole to bolt hole, center of main bore to center... You get the idea. I would have thought that has been tried but maybe not. We don't got no stinking L motors here. Quote Link to comment
Dantheman
Thanks gravel trap, I measured 73/4" from center to center of the bore. Also is there a difference in su inductions on the two engine sizes available on the roadster? It looks like two types of air filters. Quote Link to comment
wayno
Just about every Dual SU setup is engine specific, they are all different. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
is this a straight bolt up and go? Thanks for you input No! 1 Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Yep... My findings as well ^^^^ Quote Link to comment
Nuclear Water Boy
510 SU's are 38mm and the Roadsters are I believe 41mm so the carbs bolt spacing alone will be off. Grab yourself some 1/4" aluminum sheet and make your own using a K&N filter for a Z car or a Roadster if you can find a K&N for a Roadster. I did this with the Z K&N along with the Z air horns on ZTherapy Z carbs on my LZ2.2 and it worked great!!! Quote Link to comment
Dantheman
Thanks guys. Nuclear Water Boy, good advice, I was considering doing something like that. Did you fab the inner and outer? Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Here's an example of mine... Using the same construction method described above 1 Quote Link to comment
Dantheman
Really nice Joel. Is that filter sized for any peticular car or just a size you came up with that was available? Looks like a K&N, do you mind giving the part number? Thanks Quote Link to comment
wayno
It's so.................................................. ............................................ clean one could eat off of it, but we don't want to get someones saliva on it, so eat your food on the other side of the lot please. I am always amazed when I see this car, how can it keep looking like that year after year. Just Joel
Dedication and OCD ;) Don't have the part # anymore (been years) but the application was an early 80's Ford something or other. Found the shape I needed in an old wix catalog and cross referenced the # through k&n. Quote Link to comment
Dantheman
Great, thanks for your help. I posted an ad looking for a box and got a response. Your engine bay is awesome, and hoping mine will one day look as good. I can tell lots of hours and work went into it. Quote Link to comment
260zkaboom
The filter may be for a 1982 ford escort. There are oval shaped filters in carbed subarus from 70's to 80's also. Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Escort sounds about right... Quote Link to comment

jrock4224
pain in the ass... got a few more to do !!!! required removing the air intakes and horns off the base and re positioning them drilled the spot welds and removed them completely and welded up base and reattached them ... when the head ache goes away i will build another one Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
but worth it for the look i wanted ...since removed my sus from my green truck .... the red truck still uses one and we had to cut the element in half to install on the truck in two pieces with the master in the way ... (not as bad as it sounds cutting a brand new element in half..) Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
lol... I like that. Looks good. Would have gone that route if I could have found a roadster box. Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
How available are the roadster filter elements? Quote Link to comment
jrock4224
bought two new .. cut one in half ...ones still in package Quote Link to comment
Nuclear Water Boy
Thanks guys. Nuclear Water Boy, good advice, I was considering doing something like that. Did you fab the inner and outer? I did and the Z K&N filter provided enough room for the stock velocity stacks. I sold that motor complete about 6 years ago and shoved in a NA S14 SR20DE 165 stock hp. Then installed a set of Tomie Poncams and recently a 10lb Findanza aluminum flywheel and what a difference. Don't know what it runs in the 1/4 but really who cares, it's fast and gets 32mpg highway every year on the way to the East Coast 510 Meet at Summit Point Raceway WV 8>) Quote Link to comment
Dantheman
Thanks guys for the input and ideas. I bought roadster box at the last eagle rock swap. Took the chance on being an easy bolt on. Well that never happens. So my choices are to build a new base to work with the stock cover or to cut and modify the base. Wish me luck. jrock4224
from disassembling one and re assembling it i would maybe cut the center out fo the base and remake one and weld it in this time to save time .. but i like the factory twisted air horns too ... Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
But do the roadster air horns match the 38mm bore of 510 su's? I suspect they don't but would need to to actually see the benefits. Quote Link to comment
