datzenmike
You'll have to get a used one from someone or from a wrecking yard. Post a want ad in out classifieds may turn one up. There's a link at the top of every page. http://community.ratsun.net/classifieds/category/5-drivetrain/?sort_key=date_added&sort_order=desc The '72 used a JATCO 3N71B automatic with a 5 bolt hole flexplate to the crankshaft. It will only fit the L16 and L18 engines. Vehicles with this 5 bolt flexplate are.... April '71 and on PL510s through '74 620 trucks L16 and L18 engines through '74 710 with L18 up July '73 610 with L18 I assume the starter ring is worn out?? The ring gear alone can be purchased from Nissan for about $100 but the same starter ring gear is used on all the automatic and manual flywheels on all L or Z series engines 4 or 6 cylinder. The ones on the manual flywheel can simply be hammered off. Yours you can grind the welds away to remove it. Slip the new one on and have someone weld it in place. Quote Link to comment
Draker
Considering EVERYONE swaps out that slushbox for a 5speed... I'm sure you could have a flexplate on the way to you in about an hour if you post an ad in the classifieds. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
soembody told me just flip the ring gear over so it wears the others side unless teeth are just broke off rockauto.com has parts a good machine shop can get this. I had a new ring gear installed before Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
About 20 years ago I wanted to replace my ring gear because it had a few chipouts and I was rebuilding the engine anyway. It turned out that the ring gear alone was more expensive than the flex plate and ring gear assembly. I guess that having a complete assembly to catalog and store was less costly. Good luck in your search, I think that the suggestion to advertize in "Parts Wanted" will pan out. Quote Link to comment
