Datsun 510 Sound System Installation?

Hi all, I was looking forward to installing a sound system (radio, speakers, and a subwoofer) onto my Datsun, however, I have ran into a problem, I can't find the radio harness where the radio connects to the factory stereo. I believe it was removed completely from the cabin since there are no current speakers nor radio. How would I go about installing the complete package which includes a radio, four speakers, and a subwoofer? If this makes no sense at all, please advise me. I will try my best to simplify my English.

The way to do it is to install components where you want components, and run wires to connect them.  Harnesses make it easy to replace headunits.  You are talking about installing a sound system, so a harness missing is not an issue at all.  

 

I know I'm not being helpful, but really, this is not where you need to be at this point.  Go find a Automotive sound system enthusiast forum and read.  Read for days.  Then decide if you want to learn or not by doing.  What you describe was what I faced my first time.  I'm now a licensed electrician.  So beware what may result of such action.  And you will likely not succeed the first time.  You will likely blow a component or tow, though not for sure.  And this will not take a day or two.  A fully dedicated weekend would do it if you knew what you were doing, but since you are going in without much experience, I bet you are looking at at least double that.  

 

And put an inline fuse on your power wire.

Run new wires. Put in speakers where you want. Just do it cleanly, plan things out. Rethink twice.

 

My front speakers are in door. But you have to space them out or else the window will hit the back of the speaker. 1" MDF made clearance on my 5x7" speakers. I have wiring boots installed as well for my front doors, taken from a Volvo 850 rear doors. This makes the door jam look professional, and hides the wires. But while you have the doors off, might as well rebuild the door hinges...

 

You could probably also run components with the mid mounted under the dash, and the tweeters somewhere else (not like I like any of the options I have seen people do, but I would probably end up installing them in the dash grill right at the windshield).

 

Kick panels are often done as well, but encroach heavily on foot space, especially for manual cars, and passengers who dont know how to mind their feet.

 

Rears on sedans often go in the back deck, just make sure to reinforce it for strength, and sound quality.

 

As for a Subwoofer, once you have the rest of the system, the subwoofer is like any other car. Run the wires where they need to go (battery/deck), make the box, and boom.

 

Just try and get normal looking speaker grills, because nothing yells "steal me" like a flashy audio system in an old car.

Fronts can hide in the vents. But you will lose your vents.

The stock location will need some custom cutting and a back panel, but it'll hold 1.5DIN.

Amps can tuck under seats easy and rears are left with little option in a wagon. Id install rears behind the rear seat in a sedan

And the sub, just build a box and carpet the outside. It reasearch volume needed, direction of fire etc. and get obsessive. Then spend a year hunting down rattles.
