f1ndM3aTaco
Hello Ratsun, This is my first formal hello although I've been chillin on this site for quite a while now, reading up as much as I could so I wouldn't make an ass of myself when it came time to actually start doing things. So I guess now it's finally time to introduce my ride that I plan on working on for quite a while. Here she is my 1979 Datsun 210(b310) ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// ">http:// I'm still 100% newb but we all start somewhere. I plan on doing a lot of things with her, starting with changing the suspension to fit bigger tires. I'll post some more pics tomorrow. 2 Quote Link to comment
paradime
Clean Dat. Very promising starting point there. Has that odometer turned or is that actual miles? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Good intro and pictures. And if you did some research on your car and Ratsun then you are free to be an ass all you like. 1 Quote Link to comment
f1ndM3aTaco
Clean Dat. Very promising starting point there. Has that odometer turned or is that actual miles? That's actual miles amigo, I got her from a dealership that used to originally sell Datsun's when they first opened in the 60's. The original owner kept a few of the ones he liked for himself and passed them on to his son later on. His ungrateful son, now the shiesty owner of the dealership, sold it to me :). Garaged almost it's whole life. 2 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Wow. The car appears to be in great shape. Even better being on the East Coast. Quote Link to comment

Raggleflaggle
the rust on such a low mileage car makes me cringe... Quote Link to comment
tr8er
The rust must be fixed right. This car deserves to money. Almost perfect. I'm crazy jealous and would love to buy this car. Quote Link to comment
f1ndM3aTaco
So I plan on doing the 280zx front suspension and brake swap sometime in the near future, all depending on the salvage yard nearby and how easily they can find the parts for me. The question I have is on the rear. I keep reading so much on the front swaps but little to nothing on the rear. Would it be the same in the sense that 280zx rear struts, springs, brakes rotors, etc bolt right in? If not what else is needed? Quote Link to comment

Just need shorter/stiffer springs. 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Another "improvement" would be changing the stock links for some heim-jointed rods. This place sells a "stock" style that's adjustable and has delrin bushings (less harsh), or the above-mentioned double-adjustable rod ends (more harsh). http://trzmotorsports.com/wp2/?product_cat=rear-suspension-1979-1983-datsun-210 Quote Link to comment

If, by some miracle I am able to find this because I know how hard it is to come across, would that affect me putting the 280zx rear disc brakes and hubs on the rear or should I be looking into 200sx brakes and hubs instead? P.S. I don't know if its common knowledge on this forum but the nissanpartszone.com website has awesome diagrams for anyone who hasn't got a memory of god when it comes to nouns and specific components. I'm finding myself studying those pictures for hours. They're great. Quote Link to comment
f1ndM3aTaco
Plus check out this graveyard I came across off of the Taconic Parkway ">http:// What I would give for a 1973 Toyota Celica with a manual transmission, too bad the condition of it was shite. ">http:// "> http:// ">http:// Get ready to cry, there were so many old Mustangs with 4 speed transmissions just rotting away in the yard. ">http:// ">http:// There were so many more cars, unidentifiable because of all of this brush ">http:// Look at that poor Torino... :( ">http:// I know these pics have nothing to do with Datsuns and I really should have put them somewhere else in the forum but I just thought I'd share I was pretty excited when I pulled over the other day and saw the Toyota. Then when I got out and checked the lot I couldn't believe how many amazing old cars were just dying away there. Quote Link to comment

The '80-83 200SX rear axle assembly basically bolts right into the car, and already has disc brakes on it. Oddly enough, the exact same rear brakes they used on the 280ZX. ;) Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Get a 200SX rear axle, 280ZX front struts, and a 280ZX master cylinder and you're set. B) FYI, the 82-83 cars have "better" rear calipers than the early cars. But these days you can't really be picky... Quote Link to comment
f1ndM3aTaco
Well shit, it's been a while ... I'm gonna bring back this project and see how this goes. Here are some pics to see her condition after a couple years. ">http:// Quote Link to comment
f1ndM3aTaco
So to give a quick update of what has happened over the past three years ... Nothing... well not really but Unfortunately school ate up a lot of time. Had to keep the car at home. Ordered parts from time to time so that I wasn't completely giving up, but to be honest the car has sat for about the past year at home. Good news is that now I have enough money to start getting some serious work done. I've started a journal and I think making a habit of posting is really gonna help. Anyway let's get to the fun stuff. So for right now what I plan on doing first is getting the front and rear steering/suspension/axel off the car and sent to get blasted and powdercoated. That is the first order of business. (Replacing bushings and parts as needed) As for the parts I have right now going into steering and suspension: Front/Rear bushings (full set) Front center link, steering arm, tension rods, links, ball joints Front/Rear wheel bearings Front/Rear strut inserts (stock KYB) As for other work that I see needing to be done to get the car running as soon as possible: Drain radiator, replace hoses, find leak in heater core (coolant leaking onto passenger floor carpet) Replace sparks plugs and wires (in stock) Replace clutch master cylinder (in stock) Replace clutch slave cylinder (in stock) Replace clutch hard line (need bent) Need to find rubber grommets that hold hard lines, anyone know where to find them? Would like to buy these in bulk if possible. If not I can still use the ones I have, they don't seem to be in terrible condition. Otherwise I'll run a basic tuneup. Upon my last look it seemed like the engine may be leaking too, can imagine most of the gaskets are up for a change but i'll take a closer look tomorrow. Anyway I think that is good enough for now Quote Link to comment
B2Fresh
There's potential in that 210 of yours. Just give the tlc that it deserves. I would start from the ground up and by saying that I would repair any rust on the under carerige and undercoat the heck out of it or apply some bedliner under it and on the inside floor boards. After just go to town and repair one panel at a time.. Just my opinion on the project. Quote Link to comment
JDOM310
I'm with B . No question resto Quote Link to comment
