Datsun620longbed
So I've been having trouble getting my steering wheel off my 620. I've put penetrating oil on it and let it soak multiple times and it still wont budge. Any ideas? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I have never failed to remove a Datsun steering wheel. Sit behind wheel. Place hands between wheel and dash. Turn head to the L or R. Strike the far side of the wheel on the spokes and drive it towards you. Try to do together, hard with the heels of your palm. Did I mention to turn your head??? If not stitches in the lips and maybe new dentures. Others have said to grip the top and bottom of the wheel rim an push one and pull the other hard while wiggling it off. All manuals warn NOT to hammer on any part of the steering column. Some are collapsible and all have bearings in them. .... and it's the steering wheel!!!!!! Second only to the braking system. 2 Quote Link to comment

Datsun620longbed
Thanks guys I got the steering wheel off put ran into another problem. the bolts to mount the tail light to the housing snapped do you guys know of any easy non ghetto ways of fixing this? 2 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Drill them out and retap. Use a punch to mark center of th bolt. Then use a small bit to drill thru, after that use a bit just smaller that the tap drill size and you may be able to work it out then and chase the threads with a tap. If not, drill to tap size and run a tap thru it. Now you have a non ghetto fresh threaded hole. Edit: If you don't have a metric tap set I suggest investing, you own a Datsun and this will be a regular occurrence. Also on body bolts that you can get to the back of, sometimes iit's easier to tighten the head off and then vice grip it out (tighten thru the hole) from the back side. 2 Quote Link to comment
Justin Berni
I know you already got the wheel off, but I do what Mike does, except I leave the bolt on, just barely on, that way I pull the wheel off but the bolt stops it from hitting me in the face, that's not fun. 4 Quote Link to comment
Datsun620longbed
Anyone got any tips for me to get my l20b to stop dieseling? 1 Quote Link to comment
84720FourWheel
Stall it out with the clutch. You may be able to get it to stop with some carb adjustment. 1 Quote Link to comment
Datsun620longbed
Can anyone tell me if these dash caps are any good or worth it? http://www.americandashcaps.com/datsun.html http://www.1aauto.com/1972-79-datsun-pickup-datsun-620-pickup-molded-dash-pad-cover-%28half-cap%29/i/1aidc00089 1 Quote Link to comment
abbylind
Ive got one, not bad for the money. I had to put a rubber strip on the backside of the dash due to the old dash rotted off completely Check the area to the left of the glovebox if you get one. Mine had a small stress crack. I fixed myself rather than shipping it back 1 Quote Link to comment

I think they are studs spot welded to the bezel. Remove any way you can or drill new holes in both and nut and bolt together Anyone got any tips for me to get my l20b to stop dieseling? Connect up or check the idle cut solenoid is working or in working order. The solenoid shuts off gas to the idle circuit whe the key is turned off. Reduce the idle speed to 650-750. Or find out why it is so high and correct it. Check that choke is completely off when engine is warmed up. 1 Quote Link to comment

Datsun620longbed
Anybody know why my truck likes to kill alternators? I bought a new one like 4 or 5 months ago and it's dying again. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Probably because you bought it from a parts store, try to find an OEM one at a wrecking yard. Charlie69
There a some really poor quality rebuilt alternators out there. If I can not do as Wayno suggests, I buy NAPA parts. St ill has quality and for my 86 King Cab they were cheaper than O'reillys. 1 Quote Link to comment

abbylind
It was a pretty easy install. I had to build up the area near the windshield with some rubber strips. My dash had completely rotted and came off in chunks 2 Quote Link to comment
Datsun620longbed
I've been needing to put this front end in for a while now but because of school I haven't gotten around to it. I need/want to replace all the bushings on it, but I don't know exactly what ones I'll need. Can anyone tell me which bushings I'll need and how many? 2 Quote Link to comment
