AJY
Ok this truck was supposed to be a quick little maintenance daily driver that came with a poorly inserted rotary. So it was then supposed to be an easy KA swap. Turns out there is no trans tunnel (just street signs) and the front of the frame has been hacked up with "suspension mods" (they welded the tie rods together and it has limited adjust-ability for toe) So I was trying to find a KA and trans that was running ended up buying a 91 240sx with an s14 motor and a half rebuild s14 ka. Now comes the fun part car is almost ready to go to scrap just have to cut the floor roof and rear quarters off. Then I will swap the sub frames and Ka with harness over. Also going to use the 240sx floor pans and trans to patch the 620. I have a ton of work cut out for me, but as a college student I have a good deal of time on my hands. I have already pulled the motor and dropped it back into a Rx7 and have only had the truck for 2 months by Nov. Now let's see if I can't patch in some pictures from Fb so I don't have to dink with photo bucket PO was also from Orlando (I'm now in Austin and found the truck north of Dallas) and my buddy had this photo of the motor from a drift track outing After a four hour drive home Next to my 240z CL wheels Cleaned up Cam with two sets of wheels and half of each set mounted After new tires These aren't even wide so we will need some body work Another motor shot Picking up my bar project So the tag wasn't legit and I got caught Still haven't mounted these Key collection Shift boot Spare block Battery tray Donor car Stripping "new" wire harness New motor 50$ radio for the road trip to Znationals 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
The 620 has a frame, a real one. The S14 does not. That sub frame is just folded sheet metal and will never mount to the cut 620 frame. Keep the 620 frame and add the S14 engine cross member to it. In addition the S14 strut tops mount to the body sheet metal if you do this with the 620 the first bump the body will tear off the frame. Yu'll need to find some way to tie the top hats to the frame. The rims are just wrong for a 620. They should have more positive off set to get the tire inside the fender. You can't lower the ride height like that, one good bump and the fender is fucked and cutting and flairs looks like shit. These are better off set... I imagine that rotary swap moved the steering to the rear of the tires and is R&P now? Otherwise that S14 oil pan won't fit. 1 Quote Link to comment
AJY
Well on looking more I think it has also had a KA in it before since it has already had the cross member shaved down. I also understand there is no true "frame" to the 240sx, but the front cross member is bolted to the frame rails of the 240sx. If I can successfully shrink that or widen the front of the 620's frame to fit the cross member of the 240sx I should be in good shape. I have yet to do any chopping to the frame I want to make sure I am taking the proper precautions before doing anything permanent. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
There are a couple guys on here that have successfully grafted the 240sx suspension into a 620.There shouldn't be a need to modify the cross member for a KA swap unless it was done with a Frontier KA (which are not as prevalent as the 240 KA). Cpl620's build http://community.rat...v8-autox/page-1 Chad Copeland did it first I believe. http://community.rat...+chad +copeland There are a few more as well but these two are the furthest along that I know of. 1 Quote Link to comment
AJY
Yeah I was given confidence that it could be done when looking at these two and the way the subframe mounts to the 240sx. It's gonna be a hell of a lot of work either way I go so I might as well go all out right? Right hahaha 1 Quote Link to comment
AJY
Just figured I would give you guys an up date still trying to dump 240sx parts and getting the stuff pulled from the shell. Lots of people asking about it then backing out so after I get back from Florida next week I'll go ham and get this puppy going!! Quote Link to comment
AJY
Well been behind but I have chopped most of the 240sx up and hopefully have it gutted by the end of the weekend. My grinder wheels get full usage hahaha I'll update later 1 Quote Link to comment

AJY
Yup I bought it from a 17 year old kid who was super annoying and didn't know shit about it who bought it from someone else that couldn't put it back together. So it was doomed hahahaha. BTW aren't you Stephen? I bought the KA mounts from you, but can't use them since the 620 was all fucked up from the rotary swap. I will say they are great quality though. AJY
Well I got the dash out and cleaned up some of the dynamat and shiz. I'm picking up my own engine hoist tomorrow to try and mock the engine up and see where the shifter hole needs to be before I shave down the tunnel to fit. Still not a bad little bit done before dinner. Quote Link to comment

AJY
what happened to the rotary? It made no power and had blown out fifth gear so I sold it and everything with it to a bud. He put it back into an Rx7 Quote Link to comment
AJY
Picked up 4 engine stands and a 3 ton cherry picker plus a set of ramps all for a 100 bucks!!! so I am setting out to clean the garage to fit it all and then work it out tomorrow. 1 Quote Link to comment
AJY
Alright update!!!! So I have been kind of busy, but I got the motor in place mocked on some wooden blocks and measured up the trans tunnel got that sort of mocked in as well. Then went and scored a air compressor and media blaster full of media!!!! tested that out last night, going to get a few more parts for it and see if I can get some soda to clean up the floor pans for the new trans tunnel!!!! And now what you are really here for is pictures (all like 2 of you) Before the Shave Cleaned up the garage a for a bit more space And the welder is on a nice lil cart Getting the motor in place is not exactly a one man job So I used straps She is in I did radius the trans tunnel area a bit since I have to weld it in anyway Trimmed the trans tunnel down and got her in Holes line up great Also with the stock hand brake mounts intact My CL score all for less than the compressor cost (still had the sticker on it) And then some of the wonderful Previous owner's work I'll try and get some more work in this weekend 1 Quote Link to comment
