Hey im fairly new to this but ive recently purchaced a 79 datsun 620 trayback. Fairly good condiction with rust in the usual sports (minor body and foot wells). planning on swapping out the engine and maybe putting in an sr20 or KE24 DE. If anyone can give me a sugestion to any other compatable engines (not cutting the fireall and hopefully no change to mount points). Looking at around 150hp give or take. other work will include suspention, drums to discs, small interior changes and repairs, body work and respray. if anyone would like to give to some pointers or advice on any of the other work that will be done it would be appriciated. Cheers, Ausdats

The KA24E or KA24DE are both around 150 hp but you will need the KA 5 speed to go with it (strongest) or in a pinch the Z  series transmission. (a little less so)

A D21 Hardbody truck engine (Navara?) has a rear sump and batter clearance of the 620 front steering and cross brace under it. It also doesn't have the front sump and crank girdle of the S13/14 engine.

The S13/14 intake, sensors and EFI wiring (the wiring isin it's own harness) is cleaner looking and will swap to the D21 engine. The D21 wiring is inside the truck's main harness and problematic to remove and the intake/throttle body looks like a carburetor. Either setup will work... on the plus side if planning a carb KA, the truck intake is much better and eliminate all the electrical when swapping. FarmerJoe, a member, here has done this with a weber carb and made it look easy.

The drum to disc swap involves replacing the control arms with custom made ones but then later 720 or D21 front knuckles/hubs, calipers and rotors will bolt on. See BEEBANI for the control arms and the list of brake parys needed.

This is by no means a comprehensive list... just a point in the right direction...
