1978 Datsun 620 L20b sunline solaris rv

Recommended Posts

ok everyone this is my story of falling in love. And I guess real love sometimes comes when your not necesserly looking for it. I needed to find an rv and it just so happened to be a Datsun. Ive always heard of the datsun name but that was about it, and the fact they are nissan. Well a few years back i found a 1989 240sx s13 for $50. The women told me the shop told them a blown head gasket. turns out the radiator was leaking quick fix. But that car was the best thing i ever owned so reliable and handled like a dream i lost her to rust. and did not realize i could use the drivetrain on somthing else (620). but all i can do is pout that i made the mistake getting rid of her. But i still have my 620 that i think is the nicest lookin truck on the road bar none. So i have been learning as much as i can about the l20b and from what i gather i have the (smog) head w58 with the inserts in the exuast ports the hitachi 2bl and quite a bit of the emissions stuff missing. the exuast manifold has holes the are plugged with bolts i guess some kind of reburn the egr tube on the manifold is corroded but i had her running pretty good i noticed the distributer was advanced as far as it would go for 12 btdc timing chain off a tooth. and then one day just could not get to stay running under load. Time to fix it the right way so i disassembled the engine down to the block .Well she dropped a valve seat and when i was attempting to get the crank bolt off the timing chain would just jump on the crank so i stopped at that point for now hopefully an air ratchet will work and im gonna need nissan oem gaskets if any body can lead me in the right direction. also the long bolt on the oil pump snapped of and it still wont come loose i dont want to hit it so im stuck there to any advice would be appreciated thanks guys for now hopfully i can get these pics to work for yall [/url]">http://IMG_0036_zps5589eac2.jpg

I actually have one of the camper axles off one of these trucks, it was set up as a dually, it had the adapters I wanted, and it does have different leaf springs, 4 of them, 3 full length leafs, the 2nd one wraps around the shackle mount eye on one end, and half way around the eye on the other end, the 3rd one is full length from eye to eye, while the 4th one has one end full length, while on the other end it comes up a foot short of the eye.

Here is a couple photos of the adapters I wanted, the reason for buying the 3rd member, plus I got 4 620 disc brake rims.

ok guys i have some questions i need help with. as you can see in the pic i snapped a bolt at the head on the oil pump. im guessing the threads run into the pump a ways, any ideas would be appriceated. also i noticed on the front of my blocks there are grooves were the timing chain rides are those supposed to be there?. And the last thing and please go easy on me guys im hoping im wrong i noticed when i crank the pistons as number 4 is on its way down i can see tiny drops of coolant! does that mean the bore has a crack below the rings were i cant see it. the coolant passage is right behind were its coming from. i really hope the block isint ruined please any thoughts on my topic? Once again you are asking on more than one post... http://community.ratsun.net/topic/64457-need-some-advice-and-tricks/?do=findComment&comment=1159456 Other people are going to read and answer this one not knowing it has already been answered. Do you see the confusion this will cause?????

If you have a question about the engine ask it only in the engine section then.  For background on your truck provide a link to your project thread. Also keep in mind that answers can take days to come in, or you may not get any..

Lets give an example.

You have a problem starting your 620 so you post in your Project Datto thread about it and after a couple of hours there is no answer so you figure that posting the same description in 620 will work better. After a few hours and no answer you post the same thing in ENGINE and then ELECTRICAL. Next morning you have 4 forums to check and there are 4 (or more) answers and tips but someone has asked you if you have an automatic and is it in PARK? and you fix your problem. The other three (or more) people don't know about this and can't participate. So what do you do, update the other three forums? or do they just flow along with people trying to help with answers. Maybe one goes dormant for three months until found by someone who posts wanting to help, not knowing the problem was fixed. Sure is nice when everyone is on the same page. Gets confusing with only two identical posts.

Here's a tip for when there is no answer and your post has fallen down to page three. Just open it and send a reply like 'bump' or 'TTT' and it will move to the top of the current page for viewing by all.
