MaxEmiliano
Will a 71 510 sedan automatic tranny fit a 72 510 sedan auto tranny? Even though 68-71 had column shifter and 72-73 had floor shifter? Quote Link to comment
danfiveten
It will fit, but you have to modify the shifter to work, or get the floor or collum parts to go with the tranny. The jatco in the early for the switch from the borg warner had a collum shifter. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yup, April '71 was the first JATCO but the floor shift didn't come out until June or the beginning of the '72 model year. For two months there were column shift JATCOs. Compounding the answer is that the BorgWarner 35 automatic has the linkage on the driver's side. The JATCO is on the passenger side. If yours is the April '71 and on JATCO... no problem just connect it up to the '72 floor shifter. If you have the older BorgWarner 35 you'll not be able to use the '72 floor shift as it is. Maybe you could modify the linkage from the floor shift to work over on the other side of the transmission. Depends which way the BW35 shift works, could be reversed. Park position on the floor shift might be 1 or low on the transmission? Also the flex plate and torque converter must be kept together. Quote Link to comment
