EastBay521
Almost. Still some electrical issues to deal with. Gots me this on hand just incase I get frustrated and decide to rip everything out Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
She runs pretty good just drove her about 30miles or so on the freeway. I still have to tend to an oil leak and trim my lower radiator hose. As for the electrical, Im finally charging(bypassed the harness all together), I have have head lights with the high beams on all of the time, tail lights and brake lights. No side markers, hazards, or turn signals. I suspect my turn signal switch to be bad because when I put it down to signal turning left I get 12v coming out but when I put it in the up position to signal turning right im only getting 4v and nothing coming out of the flasher. But today I learned that the fuel gauge only works if the turn signal switch is in the down position. But what I have is good enough to get me to Oregon next month so that's all I need. Ill try to take a picture tomorrow, I plan on taking to the shop at some point and doing something productive. 1 Quote Link to comment
edekalil
Cool, in the mean time use your hand signals. 1 Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
I drove this bitch to work today. My brake pedal went dead on the freeway and when I got to work I had steam pouring out of the radiator....bought an auto meter temp gauge last night so I'll be putting that on during lunch. The eBay deal I got is a fucking joke Quote Link to comment
racerx
Was your brake fluid leaking? Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
Yea where I have not checked. I just topped off the resivoir when I dropped my gf off then got to work. Im gonna check it out before I leave the shop though Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
Tried to braze it but it just plugged up the line Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
Much to do before she I will be comfortable taking her to Oregon. Taking her To work today was a nightmare. Hooked the auto meter gauge up to the stock sending unit on the engine but was reading way higher than it was,so I came home and put the sending unit that the gauge came with and it's working. Tomorrow I'm going to mount another radiator fan. I have one 12inch on the front but the thing is garbage. I'll be adding another 10inch on the inside and hope it's enough to keep it cool in traffic because it was boiling over in traffic on the way home. Also for this weekend I'm hoping to add a fuel pump relay as the fuel pump slows down when I turn the fan on. A lot to do Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
Just got done adding another fan and relay. Fuel pump doesn't slow down anymore when I turn the fans on and it went from 200 degrees down to 185 rather easily I'd say so I'm happy with that. Tomorrow I'm going to drive it around after work and let it idle a lot as if I were in traffic. Also my tach and fuel pump relay kit came in today but im not sure when I can get to that. Dinner plans tomorrow night, hopefully I'll be driving this to the monthly meet Friday and I work Saturday with plans in the night aswell. Soon enough though Quote Link to comment
Draker
Heck yeah! Shake it down and put it to work! Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
That's the idea. I'm A little worried though because it boiled over like 3times yesterday and today when I started it up it was low on coolant, so I put the pressure tester on ther with 15psi dropped down about 3psi in about 15 minutes or so but didn't seem to fall after that. It should be fine but it's still lingering in the back of my mind Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
Drove my gf to the grocery store let it idle while she went inside then to my aunts place taking the heavily congested route to see how it will do in traffic. After about 10minutes at idle with the fans the temp crept past 210. Not to much confidence in this thing so far. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy one of those spal fans from summit. A little pricey but I'm hoping that you get what you pay for Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
do you have any sort of shroud around the fans to help better pull the air through the radiator and are they turning in the right direction? the second part of that i'm not trying to be a dick but i'm sure if i were attaching electric fans i would manage to find a way to reverse the polarity or something so that they push instead of pull air. i'm and idiot sometimes and am a lot of the time an embodiment of murphys law 1 Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
No shroud but the are turning the right way. Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
a shroud might help so you aren't pulling air from other areas of the engine bay instead of through the radiator. but i could also be making that up, it makes sense in my head though. 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
What radiator is in this thing? Is does it bubble when the cap is off? Does it build a ton of pressure? What is the outside temp? You might be right.. could just be the fans. A shroud would help. SPAL fans are highly regarded. Quote Link to comment
Jcooper
Just got my hands on a 72 4door 510. Engine temps were running about what you were. Bit the bullet so to say, purchased an oem engine fan (as mine was missing), ordered a lower temp thermostat, purchased a koyo radiator and I'm sourcing an oem rad shroud from yenpit. All together I'm hoping for better operating temps. All my 510 had was an offset 8 inch electric fan acting as a puller- nothing else. Hated watching my temp gauge rise so damn quick. I believe I can remount it and rewire the polarity to act as a pusher with the whole setup. Best of luck to you Quote Link to comment
EastBay521
ebay ka swap radiator. It does bubble abit when the cap is off. Today when I got home it was high 70s then I went a few miles inland away from the water where its was about 80. when im cruising its staying at 190 with a 185 t stat. but this is only my first day actually driving it with the autometer gauge 1 Quote Link to comment

And i have done business with yenpit, his prices id say are fair and he makes sure you know what you are getting which is a plus. He is also very helpful with any questions you might have Quote Link to comment
Jcooper
Standard L16 motor, original with no mods that I have come across. I probably shouldve added the small bit where one of the previous owners must've nicked the radiator when placing the small fan on it , or something had happened, as I've just noticed a leak where my small fan is- may also be playing into my heating issue. yenpit has been very thorough in his sale of parts to me so that's a huge plus. My restoration is starting off slow but it'll get there. Quote Link to comment
heywier427
I have the ka/sr ebay rad, but with their shroud and dual (cheap ebay) 12" fans, with a rotary engine, which runs hot by nature. 165 thermostat/ 175 switch. Runs very cool. Grab a cheap ir gun to verify actual temps. Quote Link to comment
