That is the hot measurement.  .010, and .012 is the cold measurement.  Set them cold, get the engine good and warm, check again.

In an ideal world, the measurement hot will be within specs.  

 

You notice the hot clearance is smaller? 

If the valves are too tight, when really hot, the clearance goes to zero, and because the valve train is all mechanical, that means a valve is held open, and that will burn that valve.

 

As you run the engine, the valve clearance very slowly decreases.  That is why you have to check them.

If it happened to be my vid, those were the cold settings.  I prefer to set them cold because there's very little change in temp while adjusting cold.  You can check them hot to verify they're right, but the temp changes can be drastic if you have to adjust each one.  The slower you go, the more the temp changes.   I set everything cold....I can take my time, it's more comfortable.  If I'm worried about it, I'll verify them hot.  Just my 2 cents :)
