'78 B210 trunk smells like gas...

It's is now "normal" b/c of the age of the car. But it does not have to be.

I changed all the gas hoses coming from the gas tank on my B and that seemed to help a lot.

The older they get the more porous they get.

Check the seal of the floater too. I made my own since it is impossible to find a new OEM seal.
