travis06lly
I know this question has been asked a million times but i can't really find what I'm wanting to do. I have a 76 620 that I'm want to basically make a street/drag truck and put a boosted and built ls2 in it. The only thing that i haven't figured out yet is what i need to do with the front end to be able to support the power i want to put in the truck. I mostly see every one swap out front ends from another car or something along those lines into the trucks, i really don't want to source out the parts to do that since the junk yards here in south tx suck. So what should i do? Take it to a shop and just get them to build a front end for me with disk brakes and coil overs and all that? How is the chevy luv front end compared to the 620? Is that a swap i should consider? Im thinking about calling some shops and asking there opinion and getting some quotes. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Depends on your fab skills. If you have the skills to swap in a v8 then you should be able to handle coilover mounting. You can swap disc brakes into your truck very easily these days as it is a bolt in affair now. Quote Link to comment
travis06lly
I'm pretty much asking what is the easiest swap to do, is there a car front end out there that's relatively easy to swap out? Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Easiest and most effective is hardbody brakes, do a little searching on 620 disc brakes. There are a couple different methods, you would have to decide which method is for you. There is no need what so ever to swap out the entire front end. Quote Link to comment
travis06lly
Ive just never really messed with the suspension that much other then lifts and lowering kits. What about the a-arms should those be swapped out in favor of some better heavier duty ones? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Its a king pin truck. Nothing you can do short of custom made control arms. Look for threads made by Beebani Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The stock front end is rugged enough to support a drag truck. All it needs to do is steer anyway. My concern is brakes. Drum front end is barely ok, with too much maintenance to keep it tip top. Not good enough for repeated 10 second runs. A dic brake swap is in order here. Front coils would only be good for replacing the torsion bars to make room for a V8's headers. Ive just never really messed with the suspension that much other then lifts and lowering kits. What about the a-arms should those be swapped out in favor of some better heavier duty ones? It's a truck. They don't get more heavy duty. Quote Link to comment
travis06lly
Ok guys thanks, i saw the coilover brackets that beebani makes already. As far as the disc brakes i looked at the brackets and kits from a couple different places, would it be possible to run there brackets and use some 5x 4 3/4 corvette style discs Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
As long as the bracket supports the caliper and the disc is 6 lug and fits the wheel hub and aligns with the caliper.... yes. BEEBANI didn't make them to fit chevs but to use Nissan parts. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Just shop with Bee. Well documented with all his swaps. Plenty of happy customers. Quote Link to comment
