Lozer
I'm wondering if anyone has done this? If you can do a ka head on l block why not an l head on a ka block? Other l heads are an option. I know the l heads may not hold a candle to the ka but if you wanted to keep the original look. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I don't know if anyone has done it, but it seems like backward thinking to me. I'd put the KA head on an L series. The front cover and timing chain assembly is the problem area. If you want a 2.4L L series, use a Z24 bottom end. A lot easier. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Oil pan lean would be wrong as well. Want to keep the original look? L head on a Z22 block. Quote Link to comment
Lozer
It was just a silly idle idea as I have a ka sitting here. And doing the xmember flip isn't a big deal to me. Also the newer trans would be an improvement. Quote Link to comment
Lozer
OK so I did a bit of digging. There are 2 different dish sizes for ka24e motors -6 and -2.8 not the a87 head I have is most likely us and has a 45.3cc the ka has a bore and stroke of 86 bore 96mm stroke. Head gasket bore diameter of 90mm gives me a 11.8 or 11.1:1 cr now the only question is can the a87 feed the thing. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The KA24E pistons are 2.8cc and 8.5 compression. The first 3 months of production they were a dome (I assume) as the compression was 9 to one. I know of no 6cc KA pistons. Stock KA24E with A87 open chamber head is 11.24. You would have to use the A single link timing chain, probably lengthened and the KA cam sprocket on the L head. The double timing chain crank sprocket won't fit the KA crank or the single chain guides. I think sealick used an L head on a Z timing cover that worked... Z and KA use the same timing cover to head shape... ask him what he did. The L head is not going to breath nearly as well as the KA head so I would expect something between a Z24 and a KA for performance. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
He may be referring to the 16 valve KA which has the conical dish in the piston. I thought they were about 8cc though. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Makes about as much sense as a W53 head on a Mazda 13B Quote Link to comment
